🌟 Childcare Funding Explained – A Guide for Parents 🌟

We know childcare funding can sometimes feel a little confusing, especially if you're new to nursery or trying to plan ahead. We hope this guide helps make things a little clearer!

The funding your child is eligible for depends on their date of birth and when they reach the required age. Funding doesn't start on a child's birthday – it begins from the start of the next funding term.

📅 There are three funding terms each year:

🌸 Spring Term (January – March)
☀️ Summer Term (April – August)
🍂 Autumn Term (September – December)

For example, if your child turns 9 months old in February, they can usually access eligible funding from the Summer Term. If they turn 2 in May, they may become eligible for 2-Year-Old Funding from the Autumn Term.

We've attached a handy table below to help you check when your child may become eligible for:

💷 Tax-Free Childcare

Did you know you could get extra help with your childcare costs? For every £8 you pay into your Tax-Free Childcare account, the government adds £2, up to £2,000 per child, per year (£4,000 for disabled children). This can be used alongside your funded hours (if eligible) to help reduce your childcare costs even further.

If you're unsure what funding your child may qualify for, you can contact Barnsley Council's Families Information Service on 0800 0345 340, who will be happy to advise you on the funding options available and answer any questions you may have.

⭐ Top Tip: Apply for your funding code and Tax-Free Childcare as early as possible to make sure everything is in place before your child's funding start date.
