🐛 Bug Hunting in the Rain
Rain brings out unique creatures like worms, snails, and slugs, making it the perfect time for scientific discovery.Understanding the World (The Natural World): Children investigate living things, notice changes in their environment, and learn to handle creatures with care.
Mathematics (Numerical Patterns): Counting legs, sorting bugs by size, and comparing the shapes of snail shells.
Communication and Language: Learning new descriptive vocabulary like slimy, segmented, mollusc, and sheltered.
🧪 Rainy Potion MakingMuddy puddles and rainwater provide the ultimate sensory base for outdoor mixing, measuring, and brewing
Physical Development (Fine Motor Skills): Pouring rainwater, squeezing squishy berries, crushing leaves, and stirring thick mud mixtures builds hand strength.
Expressive Arts and Design (Being Imaginative and Expressive): Roleplaying as wizards, scientists, or chefs while experimenting with different textures, colours, and natural materials.
Mathematics (Measure): Using terms like full, empty, heavy, and volume while collecting rain in different containers.🪵 Tree Swing FunSwinging in the rain introduces element-based sensory feedback, such as feeling the wind and raindrops on the face while moving.
Physical Development (Gross Motor Skills): Developing core stability, spatial awareness, balance, and coordination by pumping legs to swing.Personal, Social and Emotional Development (Managing Self): Assessing risks on a wet seat, building confidence, and learning physical boundaries.
Understanding the World (The Natural World): Experiencing forces first-hand, such as gravity, momentum, and the resistance of the wind.

Hands-on exploring and discovering start right in the nursery.
Babies and toddlers learn best by using their senses to explore the world around them. Turning a nursery into a safe space for adventure helps them grow, think, and learn.
Dynamic Discovery Areas and Sensory Stations: Filling low tables with safe items like large smooth stones, fabric scraps, natural materials and crinkly paper.
Texture table : a mixture of sensory items, bumpy cardboard, ice, metal objects and soft materials jumbled together to explore.
Exploring colour: a hands-on science lab where children independently test ideas. By combining liquids, lights, or materials, children develop critical thinking as they discover how new colours are made

🪵 Forest School Tool ActionsTree Clumping: Children using saws, palm drills, and mallets to cut, drill, and secure branches into micro-habitats or shelters.Transporting: Children use wheelbarrows, tarps, and ropes to haul logs and heavy brush across uneven terrain. Using letter stamps to mark the wood we have found
Exploring: Children use magnifying glasses, peelers, and trowels to strip bark, dig roots, and investigate micro-beasts.🗺️ EYFS Learning BenefitsPhysical DevelopmentGross Motor: Pulling tarps and pushing wheelbarrows builds core strength and balance.Fine Motor: Using drills, saws, hammers and letter stamps refines hand-eye coordination and pencil-grip muscles.Personal, Social, and Emotional Development (PSED)Risk Management: Handling real tools teaches self-regulation and spatial safety boundaries.Resilience & Confidence: Completing heavy physical tasks creates high self-esteem.Teamwork: Moving large logs forces children to communicate, share loads, and cooperate.Communication and LanguageContextual Vocabulary: Introduces heavy-use action and science words (leverage, friction, decay).Instructional Speech: Promotes clear peer-to-peer safety commands ("stop", "heavy", "pull").Understanding the World & MathEco-Science: Exploring root clumps teaches life cycles, habitats, and material textures.Applied Math: Moving logs introduces spatial awareness, weight estimation, and volume comparisons
