Today we are celebrating record breaking GCSE results!🤩

This morning our school was full of smiling faces as our Year 11 students opened their GCSE result envelopes. The Class of 2026 achieved an incredible set of results, surpassing previous high grades.👏

With 66% of students achieving a Grade 5 or above in English and maths and 88% a Grade 4, our results are expected to be considerably above the national average. With so many students achieving exceptional grades, it is difficult to recognise every individual success story, however, one particularly remarkable achievement came from Ben L, who secured a Grade 9 in maths with a perfect score of 300 out of 300. In recognition of this exceptional accomplishment, we received a personal message from the OCR Exam Board's Head of Assessment confirming that Ben was one of the highest-performing students in the country.

Our Head of School, Hijab Zaheer, said:
"We are incredibly proud of the achievements of our students. Their hard work and dedication has been rewarded with these record-breaking results. We also recognise the dedication and support offered by their teachers and parents and carers. Results as good as these would not be possible without a hugely successful team effort. More important than the numerical records are the facts that our Year 11 students now have the very best chance of making the next step to their chosen further education or training destinations. They now have the keys to open many more doors of opportunity for their futures."

Today we are celebrating another excellent set of A level results! 🤩

The average grade has risen from last year and is B-. We are thrilled that all students received the grades necessary to make their next step into further education, an apprenticeship or employment.

Some notable examples are Charlotte L who achieved A*s in chemistry and history and an A in maths who will now read chemistry at Birmingham University. Katy P secured an A in biology and Bs in chemistry and maths and will be studying biosciences at Durham University. Elisabeth W is moving north to the University of the Highland and Islands to study marine science after attaining As in biology and geography and a C in chemistry. Bryony S will start studying philosophy, psychology and scientific thought in September at the University of Leeds after obtaining As in history and sociology and a B in English language.

Dr Henderson, Head of Sixth Form said:

"I am incredibly proud of every one of our students. The Class of 2026 have achieved excellent grades, opening the door to a wide range of prestigious destinations and exciting opportunities. Behind every grade is also an individual story of achievement, resilience and personal growth. Our students have faced their own challenges and overcome obstacles that have helped shape them into the young people they are today. Their results enable them to take the next step in their journey, but those grades only tell part of the story. They do not reflect how much our students have grown, developed and progressed as individuals over the past two years.

It is a great privilege to watch students grow from fresh faced Year 7 students to accomplished young adults and I could not be prouder of them. They are a credit to their families, our community and themselves.”

Hard work, discipline, and determination paid off as our Year 8 student Ella secured 1st Place in the Taekwondo Pattern Competition (Sector Individual, Ages 10–14). An amazing achievement!👏

A group of our Year 10 students recently visited Belgium and France to see the stunning war memorials and battlefields. Everyone had an amazing time, even with the increasing temperatures! ☀️

As always, our students were exceptional and a real credit to our school.

Activities week is next week!

A reminder that pupils should wear suitable clothing for their planned activities on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. School uniform is not required on these days.

On Thursday and Friday, students are back in school and to be wearing school PE kits with House colours wherever possible.

*Polite reminder - we sent a letter to all parents/carers on Wednesday regarding external visits next week - please check this if you have not yet seen it for additional information.

Yesterday a group of students represented our school brilliantly at Gateshead International Stadium in the North East Learning Trust Athletics Festival 2026!🤩

As the sun shone, so did Team Teesdale! Our students put in some great performances against other Trust schools and came away with medals for individual performances in track and field events. It was a brilliant day with lots of memories and friendships made.⭐

Earlier this week, our Year 9 girls took part in a fantastic Baseball Festival hosted by the County Durham Spartans at Staindrop School.

The students enjoyed a range of skills stations, developing their throwing, hitting and fielding techniques before putting everything they had learned into practice in a competitive game to round off the session. It was great to see so much enthusiasm, teamwork and determination on display throughout the day!
