Today, Warren Mead Infant and Junior Partnership proudly took part in , run by Speech and Language UK. ππ
Did you know that 1 in 5 children struggle with talking and understanding words?
Today was a powerful reminder that every child deserves to feel heard, understood and confident to share their voice.
Our Breakfast Club children kicked off the day as Communication Ambassadors with a Talking Treasure Hunt, collecting communication tokens by learning new things about each other and starting conversations across year groups.
One of the highlights of the day was joining the Nationβs Biggest Ever Show and Tell, where every child β and every member of staff β shared something important to them. There was laughter, bravery, storytelling and so many meaningful moments of connection.
Across the school, children took part in debates, storytelling, communication games, mystery object challenges, outdoor learning and oracy activities designed to build confidence, vocabulary and listening skills. Year 1 even took maths into the hall, exploring position and direction through movement, music and dance!
Today wasnβt about taking pens away.
It was about elevating communication.
At Warren Mead, we know that speaking and listening underpin learning, wellbeing, friendships and belonging β and today those voices filled every corner of our school. π

π As part of their project learning, Year 2 had a wonderful day marking 100 years of They enjoyed completing observational nature drawings, explored habitats through play, experimented in the mud kitchen, used the giant scales to compare natural materials, and spent time sorting animals. In the afternoon, we held a special birthday party, complete with treats and a screening of one of his documentaries! It was lovely to see the children so enthusiastic and engaged with learning about the natural world π

π Year 1 have embraced their new project focusing on animals! They've engaged their senses, learnt about the parts of the human body (and that humans are animals!), sorted invertebrates and vertebrates and will be moving on to focus specifically on the 5 groups of vertebrates! We are so impressed with their enthusiasm and excitement for their learning!
