The Old Barn Pre-Prep

This week the children have been getting excited making potions for science week. All you need to do is add vinegar, food colouring, washing up liquid and glitter into a container and then stir in a large spoonful of bicarbonate of soda and watch the magic happen. Don't forget the magic words to make the spells work. The children made spells to fly, turn themselves into animals and superheroes and make each other disappear.

Yesterday in Pre-prep we celebrated world book day 2022 with some amazing costumes and many stories which we enjoyed reading with the children.
We also read the hungry Caterpillar and retold the story with props and made Caterpillar printing pictures using a potato, lemon and an apple. 🦕🛫🧚‍♀️🤴👸🦋📚 what is your favourite story?

Today is the 25th Annual World Book Day!
To celebrate World Book Day today, we have a range of activities based on the children's books and characters we love.

As today is also St David's Day, pre-prep enjoyed making their very own daffodils 🌼

The afternoon children are having a flipping’ good time for Pancake Day. 😊

Today in Pre-prep the children have celebrated Shrove Tuesday by making pancakes. They had lots of fun mixing it although there were a few mishaps along the way. They ate theirs at nursery with lemon and sugar. Then had fun trying out of they could toss a spare one. What do you enjoy on your pancakes at home?

The children have been talking about their favourite stories today getting ready for World Book Day. We continued this interest by creating a cosy den with them to look at stories and the letter cards making up their own stories.

One of the children found a piece of fir tree in the car park blown down by the wind, which inspired us to make a snowy scene with the children to play with. We discussed animals who live in the snow and like the cold and the children looked through the boxes to see which one they could find.

We love to celebrate special moments in our children’s lives. This week, we have been celebrating the third birthday here at Pre-Prep and feel privileged to share this occasion.
How do you celebrate birthdays/ or important dates with your special people?

The children in Pre-prep have had fun making bubble painting pictures today. Why not have a go at home. All you need to do is add ready-mixed paint, washing up liquid, and water into a cup or paint pot, then get ready to blow gently through a straw and see the bubbles rise. This can then be printed onto some paper. We hope you have fun trying this out.

Pre-prep have been enjoying the windy weather finding lots of fallen sticks on the ground. They collected lots up and used them to make their models sticking them together with sellotape. They made a variety of models including a letter H, a letter A, stick men, a space ship and lots of aeroplanes in different sizes. What can they make at home with natural objects that they find?

Today we celebrated the National Day of Random Acts of Kindness by talking about how we are kind to each other, drew pictures about being kind by sharing, and gave a hug to our Mummies and Daddies. We also have given out flowers to all our mummies and daddies and staff at the old barn to say thank you for being kind.
