Bronze Assessment 1
Two groups taking the opportunity to show the prowess in expedition skills. Working as a team to navigate in the Mournes in some challenging conditions in the wind and rain. Nothing shown more than the trangia stove culinary skill displayed by both groups at camp. Three course meals cooked to perfection!

Mr Robinson and Max go to the Palace.
Mr. Robinson and Max ditched their rucksacks and got suited and booted to attend the Buckingham Palace Garden Party celebrating 70 years of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award on Wednesday. Max was picking up his Gold Award and Mr Robinson was nominated to represent the Education Authority, along with other long-standing DofE leaders, to recognise his dedication to this valuable extra-curricular activity.

Bronze Training 2
Our adventurous Year 10 DofE Bronze groups put their navigation skills to the test in their first ever training expedition. They displayed excellent teamwork skills as they traversed fords, contoured their way to new heights and cooked up a storm on their Trangia stoves at the campsite. Tollymore’s complex forested trails were a breeze for our resilient navigators on day 2. Well done Year 10!

Bronze Training 1
Three excellent groups used two days in the Mournes to build on the navigation and camp craft skills learnt in their after school meetings.
Also on show were some excellent culinary skills on a trangia, and new ingenious methods for pumping up a sleeping mat. Some enjoyed quite possibly the best meal seen on DofE in many years; steak cooked in garlic butter.
Well done everyone!

DofE Silver Practice Expedition
Last week on Tuesday morning the Silver DofE group left the blue skies of Bangor to complete their training expedition under the greyer skies which lingered in the Mournes. The group trudged through the Annalong Valley focusing on fine-tuning their navigation skills before wild camping for the night.
Day 2 saw the group navigate independently across some difficult terrain often whilst contending with strong winds. At camp there was a chance to relax and rest before day 3.
The final day brought sunshine and smiles as the group embarked on the final stretch of their training before home to rest and eat!
The staff were impressed with how the groups worked together, their determination to keep going and their willingness to learn. The staff couldn't be prouder!

DofE Gold Practice 20026
In a week when all the chat around Year 13 was about 6th form leadership selection and interviews, the DofE staff team saw everything that exemplifies our students’ future leadership in school, society and life in general, not to mention excellent all round people.
The groups showed determination, leadership, togetherness, tenacity, teamwork organisation, problem solving, communication and positivity in the face of adversity. And that was just during day one!
We are already looking forward to the assessment expedition in the lakes in June with you all. Well done everyone!
