💚 Why do we love small-group tuition at Bangor Brainiacs?

Because learning doesn’t always have to mean sitting alone with a tutor!

We carefully group our students by ability and learning need, so they can receive focused teaching while also benefiting from learning alongside others at a similar stage.

And we’ve seen some lovely unexpected benefits too. Students make new friends, discover they already know someone from primary school or a sports team, encourage one another and often become much more comfortable asking questions.

Some of our students have even told us that they spend all day “masking” at school and feel more able to be themselves when they come to tuition. Others have told us they found previous 1:1 tuition a little too intense and prefer the more relaxed atmosphere of a small group.

For us, tuition isn’t just about getting through a worksheet. It’s about creating a space where students can learn, build confidence, make connections and feel comfortable being themselves. 💜🌳

📚 NEW SESSION ADDED – GCSE M4 MATHS! 📚

We've added another session to our October Half-Term GCSE Revision Days ahead of the November examinations!

Following demand, GCSE M4 Maths (Higher) will now run on:
📅 Wednesday 28th October
⏰ 3:00pm–7:00pm
💷 £80 for the full 4-hour revision session

This is in addition to our M6 Foundation session from 11am–3pm on the same day, meaning we now have dedicated revision days covering M1/M2, M3, M4, M6, M7 and M8 across half-term.

Our revision days are designed to give students a focused block of preparation before the November exams, with time to revisit key topics, work through exam-style questions, identify common mistakes and build confidence with exam technique.

We also have our GCSE English Language Unit 1 and Unit 4 Revision Days running during the same week.

💜🌳 What does tuition at Bangor Brainiacs actually look like?

As Bangor Brainiacs has grown, we’ve worked hard to make sure that our students aren’t simply coming along for an hour of tuition each week. We want them to have structure, continuity and a clear record of their learning and progress.

With our growing team of qualified teachers, our tutors now have their own regular teaching spaces within the centre, where we can keep students’ notebooks, folders and learning resources ready for their lessons each week.

📚 Students build their own learning folder

As new topics are taught, students receive clear explanation and revision sheets to keep and refer back to. They then complete practice questions and worksheets to apply what they have learned, with support and feedback from their teacher.

The aim is that, over time, each student builds up a really useful bank of notes, examples and practice work that they can return to when revising.

💻 Google Classroom – launching in October

From October, our families will also have access to Google Classroom, giving students and parents another way to access resources and materials connected to their learning.

📝 Monthly progress updates for parents

We know that parents want to know more than simply “They’re doing fine!”

That’s why we’ll also be introducing short monthly progress reports, so families can see what their child has been working on, how they are progressing and the areas their teacher is continuing to develop with them.

👩‍🏫 Qualified teachers. Small groups. Proper resources. Ongoing communication.

We want Bangor Brainiacs to feel like a real learning community: somewhere students are known by their teachers, their work is organised and built upon from week to week, and parents are kept informed about what is happening in the classroom.

Because good tuition shouldn’t just be about getting through this week’s worksheet — it should help students understand what they are learning, practise it, remember it and see their own progress over time. 💜🌳

📚 GCSE NOVEMBER EXAMS – HALF-TERM REVISION DAYS ✏️

With the November GCSE exams just around the corner, we’re running a programme of focused Maths and English Language Revision Days during the October half-term at Bangor Brainiacs.

These sessions are designed to give students dedicated time to revise key content, work through exam-style questions, tackle areas they find difficult and develop stronger exam technique before they sit their papers.

🧮 GCSE Maths – £80 per day | 11am–3pm

Monday 26 October: M1/M2
Tuesday 27 October: M3
Wednesday 28 October: M6
Thursday 29 October: M7
Friday 30 October: M8

Each Maths day provides four hours of focused revision (with a break), allowing plenty of time for targeted teaching, worked examples, past-paper practice and support with tricky topics.

📖 GCSE English Language – £60 per session | 10am–1pm

Tuesday 27 October: Unit 1
Thursday 29 October: Unit 4

Our English sessions will focus on the specific skills needed for each paper, including reading and analysis, writing, planning, exam technique and timed practice. Sessions are led by a qualified English teacher and CCEA examiner.

Both programmes are open to current Bangor Brainiacs students and students who do not normally attend the centre.

Places are limited so that we can keep groups small and ensure students receive plenty of individual support.

🏡 Home Education Hub – FREE Taster Morning at Bangor Brainiacs! 🌱

Following a really encouraging response to our recent Home Education Hub survey, we're delighted to invite local home-educating families to come along and experience the idea for themselves!

📅 Wednesday 7th October
⏰ 10am–1pm
📍 Bangor Brainiacs, Lady Mairi Bury House, 20 Hamilton Road, Bangor
💚 Completely FREE taster session

Our aim is to create a welcoming daytime space where home-educating families can learn, work, meet other families and feel part of a community – while still having the freedom to educate in the way that works for them.

Bring along your own books, curriculum, projects or whatever you're currently working on and make use of our learning spaces, Wi-Fi and available resources. We'll have shared areas where families can meet and socialise, as well as quieter spaces where available for children who prefer to work with fewer distractions.

☕ And yes – there'll be tea and coffee for the grown-ups too!

This isn't a school or a drop-off session. Parents/carers stay with their children and remain responsible for their supervision and education throughout. A first-aid-trained member of staff will be present in the building.

This first morning is very much a taster. We'd love families to explore the centre, tell us what works for them and help us shape what the Bangor Brainiacs Home Education Hub could become.

⚠️ Places are limited and attendance must be registered in advance. Please don't simply turn up on the day.

💜🌳 What makes Bangor Brainiacs different?

When I founded Bangor Brainiacs, I didn't just want to open another place where children could come for an hour of tuition each week.

I wanted to build the kind of education centre I would want to work in as a teacher — and the kind of place I would want children and families to feel part of.

👩‍🏫 That starts with our teachers.

Bangor Brainiacs was founded by a teacher, and one of my priorities from the beginning was that the qualified teachers working with us should be treated as the skilled professionals they are.

We want excellent teachers to want to teach here, enjoy teaching here and stay with us.

That means creating a professional environment, providing classrooms and resources, supporting our tutors with the administrative side of running their classes, and making sure that our teachers retain the majority of the fees generated by their teaching.

Because a happy, valued and well-supported teaching team ultimately benefits the people who matter most: our students.

📚 But we also wanted Bangor Brainiacs to be about more than tuition.

Of course, academic support is at the heart of what we do. We now offer support across Primary, SEAG, KS3, GCSE and A Level, with an expanding team of qualified teachers.

But education isn't only about exam papers and grades.

We want Bangor Brainiacs to be a place where young people can learn, belong, make friends, develop confidence and enjoy being here.

That's why we're continuing to develop things beyond traditional weekly tuition, including:

🎲 Free Social activities such as our Dungeons & Dragons club
☀️ Holiday and summer activities
📚 Homework Club and spaces for independent study
🎭 Community projects, such as our upcoming Shakespeare in the Park event, and opportunities beyond the classroom
🧠 Revision programmes, workshops and study-skills support

Some children come through our doors because they want to push for the very highest grades.

Others come because they've fallen behind and need help catching up.

Some haven't been able to manage a traditional school environment.

And some simply need a smaller, calmer place where somebody has the time to explain something differently.

There should be a place for all of them.

We're still a relatively young centre, and there is so much more we want to develop. But the principle behind Bangor Brainiacs hasn't changed:

Value good teachers. Support families. Give young people opportunities. And build a genuine learning community — not simply a timetable of tuition classes. 💜🌳

📚 Our Bangor Brainiacs timetable is growing! 🌳🧠

As we move further into the new academic year, we’re delighted to be expanding the range of classes available at Bangor Brainiacs, giving families even more options for regular, in-person academic support.

Alongside our growing range of GCSE Maths classes, we have increased our provision across English, Sciences, History and Primary education, with support now available across a much wider range of ages, subjects and abilities.

Our expanding timetable includes GCSE English Language and Literature, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Single and Combined Science, GCSE History, Primary Literacy and Numeracy, catch-up support, SEAG preparation and non-transfer P7 support, alongside Maths provision from KS3 through GCSE and A-Level.
