Forest School adventures! 🍂🌿

Our P2 children had a fantastic time exploring the outdoor learning environment during Forest School. Through play, discovery and teamwork, the children developed their curiosity, creativity and confidence.

From investigating natural materials to working together on outdoor challenges, the children enjoyed the opportunity to learn, explore and have fun in the fresh air. 🌱

Article 31. Every child has the right to relax, play and take part in a wide range of cultural and recreational activities.

Our thanks to Bruce Robertson who led training in Effective Questioning & Effective Retrieval Techniques today. It was wonderful to join as North Down PS teachers to learn and connect as we reflect on our children’s learning. 😃

Our Primary 1 children are settling in beautifully! 😃

Over the past few weeks, our youngest children have been busy making new friends, exploring their classroom environment and developing important skills through play-based learning. It has been wonderful to see so many happy faces as our P1 children learn, discover and grow together each day.

Article 31. Every child has the right to play, relax and take part in recreational activities. By providing rich play-based learning opportunities, we are supporting the children’s wellbeing, development and right to learn through play.

Well done to Olivia who completed her 50th Junior Parkrun on Sunday 20th September. This is a fantastic achievement at only 5 years old!! 👏

Over the past year, she has shown such wonderful determination by turning up week after week, never giving up.

Thank you to Mrs Lyons for supporting Olivia on Sunday and cheering her on. It meant a lot to Olivia to have a teacher from our school there to celebrate the milestone with her. Amazing perseverance and commitment! 😃

P5 Intergenerational Morning! 😊

Our P5 children thoroughly enjoyed their Intergenerational Morning today!

The children loved performing a selection of songs and sharing a special poem with their families. It was lovely to see different generations coming together, chatting and enjoying refreshments before families joined the children in their classrooms to explore their memory boxes.

A huge thank you to all the family members who attended and helped make the morning so special. We loved seeing the smiles, conversations and precious moments shared across generations.

UNCRC Article 29 reminds us that education should help children develop their talents, personalities and respect for their own family, culture and community. Today's event also highlighted the value of positive family relationships and learning from the experiences of others, helping our children develop a deeper sense of identity and belonging.

European Languages Week at Rathmore! 🌍

Last week, Rathmore loved celebrating European Languages Day during our special assemblies. We enjoyed discovering the many different languages spoken within our school community and were amazed to learn just how many languages our pupils and staff can speak.

A highlight of the week was hearing from children and staff who shared words, phrases and experiences from their own languages and cultures. It was lovely to see some of our children dressed up to celebrate different countries, languages and traditions from around the world.

These celebrations helped us learn more about one another, appreciate our diverse community and recognise how language can bring people together.

This learning links to Article 30 of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, which states that every child has the right to enjoy their own culture, practise their own religion and use their own language.
