Boxing Ireland Vice President Eugene Duffy has extended condolences to the family, friends and connections of Ray Close on his passing.

Boxing out of Belfast’s Ledley Hall, Ray won 14 consecutive amateur titles, including Gaelic Games gold. He boxed for Ireland at World Junior level, and also at several internationals.

Ray went on to 25-4 professional career, including two battles with Chris Eubank. He won Irish and EBU titles; and challenged for the WBO title twice.

May he rest in peace.
