We warmly invite you to join us as we celebrate our final day at St Gerard’s on Thursday 2nd July.
Our Summer Soirée will be a truly special occasion, and a wonderful way to mark the end of an era. A huge thank you goes to our Drama and Music departments, and to our talented pupils, for creating what promises to be a memorable afternoon.
3:15pm – The Wizard of Oz production in the Hall
4:00pm – Musical performances outdoors with some refreshments available
5:00pm – End of event
We are delighted that some former staff and alumni will also be joining us from 4:00pm to enjoy the musical performances.

Throughout its history, St Gerard's has been committed to helping pupils achieve their academic potential while supporting their personal growth and development.

The school's strong GCSE and A Level results have consistently reflected the dedication of its pupils, staff and wider community. Alongside academic achievement, St Gerard's has always placed great importance on character, creativity and wellbeing, offering a wide range of opportunities both inside and outside the classroom.

As we celebrate the school's legacy, we recognise the lasting impact it has had on generations of young people, helping them grow in confidence, develop their talents and prepare for the future.

As we reflect on the many achievements of St Gerard's School, we are incredibly proud of the high-quality teaching and learning experiences that have been at the heart of the school community.

In its 2025 inspection, Estyn recognised teaching as a key strength of the school, noting that teachers "plan learning experiences that maintain a strong pace and set high expectations."

The report also highlighted the way teachers use effective questioning and build on pupils' prior knowledge, helping children develop deep understanding and confidence in their learning.

This recognition is a testament to the dedication, expertise and care shown by our staff, who have inspired and supported generations of pupils throughout the school's history.

Last week we welcomed our pupils back for what will be their final half-term at St Gerard’s.

This term promises to be a special one, filled with celebration, fun learning experiences, and memorable trips, all while supporting our pupils as they prepare for their next educational journey.

On Wednesday, pupils enjoyed a drama trip where they sang songs the whole journey home. With many more exciting opportunities planned throughout the term, including Sports Day and our much-anticipated Summer Soirée, this final term will be one to remember.

It is with profound sadness that we share the news that St Gerard’s School will close at the end of this academic year, on 3 July. This decision has been incredibly difficult and has only been reached after exhausting every possible avenue to sustain the school in the face of growing challenges within the independent education sector.

For generations, St Gerard’s has been far more than a school. It has been a close, nurturing community at the heart of Bangor and North Wales, shaping the lives of countless young people and families over more than a century.

However, in recent years, financial pressures have grown significantly, including the impact of VAT on school fees, making it impossible to continue.

Our immediate focus is on supporting our pupils, parents, staff and the wider school community during this incredibly difficult time. We understand the deep sense of loss this news brings, and we are committed to supporting everyone with compassion, care and openness in the weeks ahead.

We are immensely proud of our history, our values and everything we have achieved together. St Gerard’s has always been a place where learning, friendships and aspirations have flourished. Our alumni are a testament to this, with many going on to achieve great success while carrying with them fond memories and experiences formed here.

When pupils return on Monday, 1 June, for the final half-term, we will ensure that their remaining time is filled with positivity, stability and special memories. Lessons, clubs and trips will continue as planned, and we will support each child as they prepare for their next steps.

We warmly invite our community to come together and celebrate the legacy of St Gerard’s at our Summer Soirée on Thursday, 2 July. This will be a special opportunity to reflect, reconnect and honour everything the school has meant to so many.

Colour is a core skill in Art, and we regularly build on our knowledge and techniques across all year groups. In Year 7, however, colour is fundamental to learning and creativity.

As part of their latest project, pupils spent time developing their oil pastel blending skills, experimenting with mixing and layering to create as many different tones and effects as possible. By filling space through overlapping imagery, they produced striking abstract compositions from simple shapes.

A fantastic introduction to colour theory and creative expression, well done Year 7! 🌈

Our Year 9 pupils successfully completed their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh practice expedition along the stunning Anglesey Coastal Path.

They enjoyed some beautiful sunshine throughout the journey and demonstrated excellent teamwork, navigation skills, and resilience along the way. It was a fantastic experience and an important step in preparing for their assessed expedition.

A brilliant achievement all round, well done Year 9!

It’s been a busy few weeks filled with high-level competition and impressive performances.

We are very proud of Toby, who was invited to compete in GB Selection races at both Lee Valley (London) and Holme Pierrepont (Nottingham) over the past few weekends.

Rowan also competed in a junior freestyle event and came second in his age category.

A fantastic effort and a great experience at this level, well done, both! 👏

Last month we held an Adventurous Reading Competition to encourage our pupils to explore new books, be creative, and develop a love of reading.

As you can see from these beautiful images, it was a huge success and we were thrilled to see so many of our amazing students taking part with enthusiasm and imagination.

Every entrant received a prize for their fantastic effort, and the competition was so popular that it will return next year!

A wonderful celebration of reading...well done, everyone! 🌟
