Happy Birthday, Pat! 🎉🌿💚

Yesterday, we celebrated the wonderful Dr Pat Denne turning 95 years young. Researcher, artist, craftswoman, conservation advocate, and one of the heartbeats of Treborth Botanic Garden.

Since retiring and joining Treborth around the turn of the century, Pat has dedicated countless hours to the Garden, from documenting tree collections and creating artwork for interpretation boards to preserving decades of invaluable environmental data. Her passion for plants, trees, and the natural world has inspired generations of volunteers, students, and visitors.

Pat’s remarkable journey has taken her from botanical research in New Zealand to a distinguished career at Bangor University, where she became an expert in tree physiology and wood anatomy. Along the way, she helped save Treborth during one of its most challenging periods and has remained a steadfast champion for botany, biodiversity, and environmental research.

When she’s not exploring the woodland or working with data, Pat can be found spinning, weaving, knitting intricate designs inspired by microscopic wood structures, and nurturing the craft community she helped establish in North Wales.

Asked her favourite plant, Pat gave the perfect botanist’s answer: “The last one I saw!” 🌱✨

Thank you, Pat, for your knowledge, dedication, enthusiasm, and friendship. Treborth simply wouldn’t be the same without you.

Wishing you a very happy birthday and many more springs filled with bursting buds, birdsong, and botanical discoveries! 🎂🌳🌼
