Finding your ability to bounce back is an important skill to learn in life.

It helps you move beyond life’s setbacks towards succeeding in life.

This bounce ability or resilience can be developed as a skill to help you better manage life’s challenges.

You can build resilience by:

#1 Practicing acceptance.

This involves looking at the situation in a neutral way in the third person which helps you to be objective about it.

It involves observing the impact of challenge on yourself, how it feels, what emotions arise and accepting these as okay.

#2 Focus on what you can control.

This involves being specific about where you need to put your mental energy and involves spending your energy wisely on productive activities.

#3 Work toward a new goal

This involves shifting your focus to more positive outcomes you want to achieve.

#4 Think optimistically by:

* Acknowledge your efforts and successes, and understand that setbacks involve multiple factors that can potentially produce positive outcomes later on.
* View setbacks as disappointing in one area of life rather than defining your whole identity.
* Recognise that difficulty is temporary and changeable.

Rather than dwelling on difficulty, focus on your positive qualities, your potential for growth and opportunities for improving your situation instead.

#5 Connect with others.

This involves finding your tribe, people who understand you, share your values and offer support.

#6 Take care of yourself

Prioritising self-care helps to reduce stress, enhances emotional well-being and helps you maintain a positive outlook.

#7 Work on problem-solving skills

Problem-solving skills help us tackle challenge and find solutions, rather than feeling overwhelmed.

#8 Get professional help from a counsellor or GP if needed.

Sometimes we all need a little extra help and recognising that professional help is needed and taking action to obtain help is a strength rather than a failure, and should be seen as such.

Finally, shift your mindset and see challenge as inevitable and a normal outcome that needs to be overcome or navigated.

Disappointments are merely stepping stones on your journey towards success.

How we perceive challenge can change our lives.

I’m trying to see challenge as a positive thing and as life steering us in the right direction.

We grow as individuals through challenge and while we may not appreciate it at the time, it teaches us and promotes self development.

Whatever your’e experiencing at the moment, choose to believe it is fleeting and is changing you for the better.
