🪴 Glorious Garden Time ⛅️

Our Butterly class (and garden butterflies!) have been loving the continued sunny weather. ☀️

Our buddleja bush is bursting with red admiral and peacock butterflies which are fluttering overhead all day long. 🦋 The children have given the bug hotel a makeover and have enjoyed lots of time digging, climbing, mixing and turn taking. 💛

Lovely purposeful, meaningful play ✨

♻️🏅⭐️ E C O W A R R I O R S 🌟♻️🌍

🐞 Our new ladybird class have taken to their new routine like a breeze. They are showing such a great level of responsibility already that together they have elected their Eco Committee for our Eco schools commitment. 🤩

Thursday mornings are compost day and that means a visit to Maggie in the nursery kitchen first of all. ♻️ Once the children have collected the organic food waste they walk over to The Wild Place to empty the waste in to the compost heap. 🪏

We have enjoyed sharing this learning opportunity with the children’s as well as supporting their independence and self belief. 🙌The Wild Place is such a fantastic learning environment and we look forward to our new preschool shaping the space as their own. 💚

🌒 Eclipse Excitement ☀️

✨ Our classrooms have been excitedly preparing for this evenings solar eclipse! ✨

🌑 The preschool children have been learning about the event through educational clips, imagery and time lapses. Over at The Wild Place they created pin hole projectors to able to watch the eclipse safely and these were great fun to try out! 🔭

🌒 Our younger children have enjoyed sensory and creative experiences based on the eclipse. Moon sand has filled the tray along with lots of spheres and ‘moon buggies.’ 🛻The loose parts has been enhanced with space themed materials and objects and the mark making area has allowed children to recreate beautiful pictures of the sun and the moon. 🌙

Happy sky watching tonight for those with their eyes up! 🤞 Even if the cloud comes in, keep those eyes away from the sun and viewing safely through the projector’s with your back to the sun! 👍🏻

🚦 “Twinkle, twinkle traffic light, on the corner shining bright. Red means stop! Green means go! Yellow means go but very slooowww! Twinkle, twinkle traffic light, on the corner shining bright!” 🚦

🚧Our Butterfly classroom were so excited to have roadworks positioned right in front of our garden fence! This brought about so many wonderful conversations; about different vehicles, parts and shapes of vehicles; different coloured lights as well as rules of the road. ⛔️The children have enjoyed talking times about safety signs and how they keep themselves safe near roads, and this has been tested as they have enjoyed local walks over the last few weeks. 🚸

🚙 There has been block play and mark making opportunities exploring vehicles and wheels. The children have tested gravity, friction and motion with wheels and ramps. 🛞 And, of course, there has been many role play drives through the garden! 🚗

👣Learning Together, One Step at a Time! 👣

💪Our Butterfly classroom have shown brilliant determination and teamwork recently. After seeking greater physical exertion in the garden, the children were delighted to help transfer a load of log slices from the car park to the nursery garden! 🪵They used great strength and co-ordination to handle the logs and were delighted to be included in the creation of a stepping stone obstacle course! 🙌

🪜Between them, the staff and children carried, positioned, balanced and stepped up and down from various heights. They were able to stretch, balance, step and jump through a changeable course and they all loved testing their own abilities and confidence!🤩

🌱Growing Together 🌱

🪚We recently had some visitors from Inchmarlo Community Workshop come and install two new vegetable planters over at The Wild Place. 🔨

🐞 The Ladybird class were very keen to get involved and of course are now well practiced at using spades and wheelbarrows! Once the planters were assembled the group worked together fantastically to empty all bags of compost in to the box. There was much scooping, lifting and tipping as well as turn taking and team work. 🙌🏼

🫘Once full the children were supported in planting their first crops for the beds- runner beans! Together they hunted for twiggy sticks to push in to the marked drill for the beanstalks to climb up as they grew. They were then encouraged to wiggle a finger down beside their stick and were each given a bean to put in to the hole, before tucking it up and watering it well. 🫛

👂The children listened brilliantly to their instructions and asked all sorts of meaningful questions- "when will the beans start growing?" "Will we eat them?" "How tall will the beanstalks grow?" "will they grow flowers?"🤔

We look forward to seeing their progress over the summer as well as begin planning for bed number two shortly! 📋
