Dear Children, Mums and Dads, Extended Family Members, My wonderful Colleagues and Governors,
It is with a sense of sincere affection to each of you that I write this letter. After fourteen and a half extremely enjoyable, and of course at times, quite challenging years at Downshire Nursery School, I leave my post as principal.
I have loved my time at Downshire Nursery School and have very much appreciated the kindness and support that you, our whole school community offered so freely.
I joined Downshire Nursery School in late August 2007, with two young daughters in tow, Olivia starting P4 and Julia P1, and their childhoods and young lives have been inextricably linked with our school. They spent many mornings before they headed over to their school, helping with the snack, setting up some play materials but more often than not, enjoying the company and chat of our amazing staff. (Oh and at times having a sisterly squabble!)
Emma (Miss Henry), would have engaged them in a conversation that always set them up positively for the day, Alison (Mrs. Adamson), would have encouraged their assistance in some creative activity she was planning, Carolyn (Mrs. Robson) acknowledged their company with a quietness and gentleness that brought out their best and Gail (Mrs. Cully) was always so interested in every aspect of their little lives. They felt well and truly loved here as I hope your children have.
I have been honoured to have worked with the above mentioned ladies along with our other current staff of Mrs Emma Hughes, Mrs Nicola Dawson, Miss Hollie Dawson, Miss Katie McVey (all SEN Classroom Assistants), Mrs Cynthia Porter our meals supervisor and Mr Stephen Leckey our building supervisor.
During my tenure at Downshire Nursery School I have truly appreciated the friendship of all our staff members and governors, who are all past parents - professionally and personally.
The community of Banbridge is so lucky to have a school such as Downshire and we have been so lucky to have you. I know that with our wonderful children and our fantastic families our school can only go from strength to strength.
It has been an absolute privilege to have been a member of the team at Downshire Nursery School and I am so grateful to have had the friendship of our school community and its many families. Downshire Nursery School and I have been overwhelmed by the support and encouragement we have always received from you.
As Downshire Nursery School looks forward to the future Emma (Miss Henry) will act as principal until Kathryn (Mrs. Campbell) takes up post immediately after Easter. Our current and future pupils will thrive in Downshire Nursery School under this new leadership and the community of Banbridge will continue to enjoy our outstanding, vibrant, nurturing, warm and welcoming school.
With great affection for you all
Angela X
Mrs Angela Knox BAHons PGCE DASE
P.S. I canโ€™t wait to see you all on the Tuesday after the half term break - Miss Henry has very kindly asked me to come into school to teach!

Admissions Criteria live for playgroups, pre-school and primary one

Playgroups, Pre-school and primary school admissions criteria are now live on our website. We have answered some of the common questions that people have been asking.

Each Playgroup, Nursery and Primary School set its own criteria for admissions. If they receive more applications than they have places available, they use these criteria to decide who to offer places to.

Target age โ€“ Children born on or between 2 July 2018 and 1 July 2019. You can apply for a funded pre-school place for September 2022 in a Nursery Unit of a Primary School or a Nursery School or a Voluntary/Private Playgroup participating in the Pre-School Education programme.

Penultimate Age โ€“ Children born on or between 2 July 2019 and 1 July 2020. You can only apply for a funded pre-school place in a Nursery Unit of a Primary School or in a Nursery School. A child of Penultimate Age, born on or between 2 July 2019 and 1 July 2020 can only be admitted after target age children are admitted and funded places remain.

Penultimate age children cannot apply to a Voluntary/Private Playgroup participating in the pre-school Education programme.

Children born between 2 July 2017 and 1 July 2018 can apply for a Primary 1 place for September 2022.

Not yet โ€“ applications will open on 10 January. We will remind you closer to the time of the citizen portal opening.

We publish the admissions criteria before applications opening to allow you to read and familiarise yourself with the criteria.

It is important to note that applications are not considered on a first come first served basis. Applications will only begin to be considered after the application process closes on 28 January.

You can also access more detailed information and read the admissions criteria for pre-schools, nurseries and primaries on our website at
