What a fantastic first (full) week back! 🌟

There’s something special about having our children back through the school gates after the summer holidays. The classrooms are busy again, friendships are being rekindled, routines are returning and, most importantly, our school feels complete again! ❤️

The highlight of the week has to be Den Building for our P7 children… and WHAT a den it is! 😍🌳

Nestled down in the corner of our playground, this is no ordinary den — it even has rooms inside! 🏠👏 The P7s have worked together, shown incredible creativity and teamwork, and created a fantastic space that we’re sure will be enjoyed by all the children in school.

We absolutely love having our children back, settling into their rhythm, learning, playing, laughing and growing together.

Here’s to another brilliant year at Ballynahinch Primary! ❤️🤍🖤

The Day the Butterflies Left 🦋
Today was a truly special day in Nursery as we said goodbye to our beautiful butterflies. The children were so excited and delighted as we carefully let them go, watching with wonder as they fluttered away into the sky. It was a magical moment that everyone will remember!

We then took a trip to the polytunnel to see how the fruit and vegetables planted by our Eco Council are growing. The children enjoyed looking closely at all the plants and noticing how much they have changed.

To finish off our day, we had some time for a little play, sharing smiles and laughter together.

A wonderful end to a very busy and happy week in Nursery! 🌼

P5 had a fantastic start to their cricket sessions this week! The children loved learning the skills of batting, bowling and fielding while taking part in lots of fun activities and games. It was great to see such excellent teamwork, encouragement and enthusiasm from everyone involved. A huge thank you to the coaches for making the session so enjoyable, we can't wait for the next one!🏏😀

P7 Team Triumph at Dromara PS Football Tournament!
We are absolutely delighted to celebrate the fantastic achievement of our P7 football team, who were crowned champions at the recent Dromara PS Football Tournament!
The journey to victory was no easy feat. In the group stages, the team showed great determination and skill, drawing one match 0–0 and winning their other two games. Across these matches, they scored an impressive five goals, demonstrating both attacking flair and solid teamwork.

The excitement truly peaked in the cup semi-final. Facing a strong opponent, our team found themselves trailing 1–0 for much of the game. However, their resilience and belief never wavered. With seconds to spare, they found the equaliser, sending the match into a dramatic penalty shootout. After three penalties each, the score was still level, taking the contest into sudden death. Showing incredible composure, our team held their nerve and secured their place in the final!

The final itself was a real nail-biter. Both teams battled hard, but it was our players’ excellent teamwork that made the difference. With a brilliant passage of play, switching the ball from one side of the pitch to the other, they created the opportunity to score the winning goal — a moment of pure joy for everyone involved!

While winning the tournament is a wonderful achievement, what stood out even more was the team’s spirit and determination. To come from behind, support one another, and never give up truly reflects the values we are so proud to see in our pupils.

Congratulations to all the players — you have done yourselves and the school proud!

On Wednesday, our P6 and P7 girls proudly represented the school at a local netball tournament hosted by Dromara Primary School. The P7 team showed great determination, teamwork and skill throughout the day, earning an excellent place in the final and finishing as worthy runners-up. For our P6 girls, this was their first tournament experience, and they played exceptionally well, supporting one another and working brilliantly as a team. We are incredibly proud of all the girls for their enthusiasm, sportsmanship and effort. A sincere thank you also goes to all of the parents who transported the girls and stayed to cheer them on throughout the day.

Ballynahinch Primary School is delighted to welcome Rasheed Eddy and Noah Densley from Downpatrick Cricket Club, who are working with our P4–P7 children as part of an exciting five-week cricket programme. Rasheed, an experienced international cricketer from the Caribbean, and Noah, a talented cricketer from Australia, have been sharing their skills, knowledge and passion for the game through fun and engaging coaching sessions. The children have thoroughly enjoyed learning from two accomplished players, developing their cricket skills, confidence, teamwork and enthusiasm for sport.

🎉🌿 Fantastic News for Our School Community! 🌿🎉
We are absolutely delighted to share that our school has been awarded the Eco-Schools Green Flag in June 2026! 🏆💚
The Eco-Schools team were hugely impressed with the work carried out across our school, and this achievement truly reflects the commitment, creativity and teamwork of our entire community.
👏 Congratulations to everyone involved — our dedicated pupils and staff, our hardworking caretaker, and the many supportive parents who helped us reach our environmental goals. This success belongs to you all!
🌱 Highlights from the assessment included:
Eco-Committee: Fantastic communication and leadership, sharing ideas and decisions through class visits and school assemblies.
Action Plan: Excellent evidence provided, with a wonderfully wide range of environmental activities.
Curriculum Links: Outstanding integration into learning, with a clear positive impact on educational attainment.

We are proud to hold our Green Flag for the next two years, and we look forward to continuing our eco journey, with plans to reapply in March 2028 for the next award cycle.

🌲✨ Nursery Forest Adventure! ✨🌲
This morning, our Nursery children headed up into the forest to put their measuring skills into practice! 📏🌿 Over the past few weeks, we’ve been exploring comparative language such as 'longer', 'shorter', and 'the same length', and the forest provided the perfect environment to bring this learning to life.

Using sticks, branches, and other natural treasures, the children enjoyed making comparisons and talking about what they noticed. It was wonderful to hear them confidently using their new vocabulary as they explored together. 🍂

It may have been a little chilly, but that didn’t stop us from having lots of fun while learning outdoors! ❄️💚 Well done, Nursery! 👏

This morning, two teams proudly represented our school at the Mental Health Awareness Primary School Football Festival, organised by Ballynahinch Youth and held at Assumption Grammar School. Our P4/5 team and P6/7 team showed fantastic enthusiasm, teamwork and determination throughout the festival. Most importantly, the children displayed outstanding sportsmanship, shaking hands, encouraging one another and offering kind words of support to players from other schools. They were a wonderful reflection of our school values, and we are incredibly proud of the way they represented our school.

Our P5 pupils have had another busy and exciting week exploring their Ancient Egyptian topic!😀

The children loved dressing up in traditional Ancient Egyptian clothing and learning more about what life was like in Ancient Egypt. They also enjoyed designing their own colourful Egyptian inspired necklaces while discovering the importance of jewellery in Ancient Egyptian culture.

In Art, P5 used their creativity to draw beautiful pictures of the River Nile, thinking carefully about the landscapes and features linked to the famous river. Fantastic effort from everyone this week!🎨⭐️
