Year 12 Retreat – Sr Clare Crockett: All or Nothing!

Year 12 students at Assumption Grammar School recently enjoyed an inspiring retreat centred on the life and remarkable faith journey of Sr Clare Crockett, a young woman from Derry whose story continues to inspire people across the world.
Under the theme “All or Nothing!”, students explored Sr Clare’s extraordinary transformation from a young aspiring actress with dreams of fame to a religious sister who dedicated her life completely to God.

A particular highlight of the day was the visit of four Sisters from the Servant Sisters of the Home of the Mother, the religious community to which Sr Clare belonged. The Sisters shared their personal experiences of religious life, their spirituality and the joy they have discovered in following Christ.
Through prayer, reflection, discussion and engaging activities, students were encouraged to consider what brings true happiness, the importance of faith and the courage to respond generously to God's call.

The retreat was a wonderful opportunity for our Year 12 students to reflect on their own lives and aspirations, inspired by Sr Clare's powerful message of living life wholeheartedly for God.

💙 🤍 YEAR 9 | ULSTER LGFA BLITZ 💙 🤍

What a day for our Year 9 girls! 🙌🏼

Both teams took part in 6 games each, showing incredible skill, teamwork, determination and sportsmanship from start to finish! 👏🏼🏐

A big thank you also to Anna, Grace and Isla who stepped up to referee the games, gaining valuable experience in the middle of the pitch and playing an important part in making the blitz a success! 💙👏🏻

Well done, girls — the future is bright for Gaelic football in Assumption Grammar! 🌟

Library News:

National Poetry Day
Thursday 1st October was National Poetry Day and to celebrate Mrs Rooney held a Pop-Up Poetry event in the library at break time. It proved to be so popular it had to be repeated at lunchtime! Students read their own compositions, teacher favourites or read from a poetry book in the library. It was wonderful to share in the joy of poetry with our KS3 students. Well done to everyone who joined in. (There are too many to list!)

Bookish Friday
Every Friday our Bookish Friday library club joins in with an activity that is book-related, focusing on something crafty, something quizzy or something to debate about. We have made bookmarks and last week we had a very popular quiz between ‘The Book Worms’ and ‘The Six-Sevens’. It was a very close match with the Book Worms winning by 1 point! This week is Harry Potter Day, so watch this space!

Book Break
Students are enjoying the relaxing atmosphere of the library by joining in every Tuesday and Thursday break time with our new ‘Book Break’ Club. Students enjoy a shared read together so they can chat about it later. They are currently enjoying Sarah Crossan’s One.
