I am a qualified primary & early years teacher with over 10 years classroom experience. I worked in Peace Education as part of my role with the Corrymeela Community, teaching children to solve conflict with peaceful strategies. Tip 1 # go to your child wherever they are when you want to speak to them and put a gentle hand on their shoulder. This can automatically draw their attention to you.

Have you heard the term 'highly sensitive' child/person? Maybe others keep telling you or your child that they are 'too sensitive'. As a highly sensitive parent coach having a highly sensitive child myself I understand that sometimes it's hard. Finding this book helped me to understand my child and how as a parent I can help him. "I nag and I nag and I nag. He just doesn't listen. For example, I tell him to turn off the TV, it's time to do his homework. No response. So I say it again. He still doesn't respond. Sometimes I repeat myself a half a dozen times.....

GOALS for 2023. As a family we sit down at the beginning of the year and create a list of what we want to achieve as a family or on our own. In the past these have included; climbing Slemish (the mountain/hill nearby), planning a summer holiday, playing more board games together etc. These help us as a family to to plan time together and spend quality time together. Our list this year so far has included a family 5km parkrun!

So if you want to be more intentional at spending time together this year have a go at making your own goals and see how many you can tick off by the end of 2023. See the link below.

Do you ever struggle with your little ones and their bad habit of not listening? Maybe it's not about your kids, maybe it's something you need to change within yourself.
My kids find it really hard to hear what I'm saying whenever they are fully engaged in something else.
The one thing I had to change was to go to where my kids are and put my hand on their shoulder to get their attention first before I ask them anything. My past habits of talking at them from a different room in the house meant that I got frustrated as well as them.
See what a difference getting their full attention first makes to what you are asking them to do today.

There have been lots of times in my life when I've had that moment of feeling 'stuck', especially as a parent. Sometimes I've been 'stuck' with how I wished I had responded more calmly to their behaviours or gotten'stuck' in routines that didn't work at home or stuck in a fear of not trying new things. To 'move forward' and get 'unstuck' I had to take action.
