When it comes to hips and back especially, no movement is a bad thing! The rest of your body’s orchestra has to take over, and they then grumble after a while as what they have to do isn’t their main job.

Have a go with these movements and see what is sticky or smooth or restricted or even cluncky. Just a minute or so a day can make a big difference especially if life dictates that you sit alot or are standing still.

What is your body telling you when you do this! Let me know in the comments!

I’ve said it before - so let me repeat this idea: Your body is an orchestra of parts and each part has to play it’s best to ensure we function well and we don’t build too much tension in specific areas, eg our hips and backs.

So if your posture isn’t where it needs to be for daily ease, extra action is required = energy leaks.

Be mindful of your posture in daily tasks, like standing in queues or at a desk, and try to think of this tip to integrate your orchestra! If you are gripping muscles to help balance or to hang out on your bones - they ain’t stacked! This leads to aches developing in many body areas including your neck, shoulders, back, hips and leg muscles.

Think of the leaning tower of Pisa - extra strength and support is required so it won’t fall over!

So if your posture isn’t where it needs to be for daily ease, extra action is required = energy leaks.

Hip stiffness and aches getting your down?
Don’t know where to start?
Fed up of being told to get stronger, and yet it just causes you to get tighter or sorer?

I know more ways to find the hidden door that can help you find where to start.

Most therapists and teachers will get you to strengthen or stretch when you just aren’t ready as the tightnesses and/or pain is too much.

You know your body, though are you really listening and paying heed to it? Maybe you are listening and know what not to do, but you don’t know where to start?

Want to try a few tried and tested starter strategies that help you respect your body and what it’s telling you?

Slow and steady wins the race! Not the go hard or go home strategy!!
Considerate, slow, mindful, realistic.

Your brain knows every trick in the book?

When you try to get the motivation to do something to help your hip mobility or pain issues - your brain knows every trick in the book to enable self sabotage.

It’s too wet.
It’s too windy.
I’m too tired.
I can’t do it anyway.
It feels too hard.
It hurts.
I have no idea what to do.
I don’t know where to start.
What if I hurt myself even more?
Maybe I should just rest and it will go away.

Given any time at all when you make a soft decision to do something enables the emotional centre of your brain to kick in. The mad monkey mind will win and will enable sef sabotage unless your rational brain quickly takes over to appease your monkey mind or you interrupt your thought patterns with eg a countdown of 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 go - no debate, just do this.

Getting to know yourself matters. What are your strategies of self sabotage and how can you plan ahead to overcome them?

If you don’t take action and allow the self sabotage:
How will you feel after?
What would be the end result?

Now let’s reframe - if you do take action and commit time to yourself:
How will you feel after?
What would be the end result?

I know my answers - what are yours?

Let’s make your story a positive one that lights you up and makes you take control and builds you up to get back on track and feel more like yourself…but better.

Do you have these conversations in your head when you start thinking you should do some exercises and take action to help yourself out of your hip movement issues??

I will do my exercises or self care, but…
I just need to do the laundry.
I just need to make that call (30mins later it ends)
I’ll just send that email quickly (get sidetracked after sending)

There’s always something else to do, ALWAYS! It’s never ending, so organise yourself like this instead:

After I do a breath practice, my footwork and hip movements, which only takes 20mins, then I will feel much better and be able to do X after.

No more taking second place.
You write your own story.
It’s all on you, take ownership and independence and be the strong woman you are.

I love the simple strategy by - say it aloud to yourself 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 - brain interrupt happens - now go do what will help you!!
