I see you - every single child - we see you.

All different, different interests, different ideas and different development stages and we plan activites that are fun but also that challenge you a little.

It could be waiting a turn, a physical skill, making choices, problem solving, sharing or saying I'm playing with it, using your imagination, increasing confidence, making connections, building resilience, managing emotions and most important seeing you smile, laugh and enjoy every session.

We see you 🙂

The wee sofa - a wee spot to sit and chat, to read a story or sing a wee song.

Its just a seat - buts it's so much more.

A spot to share, move over, or squeeze in and get cozy. To connect with our peers in spoken language or body language. To look at our peers and notice what they are doing. To share a laugh or a natter on the phone.

The sofa - a wonderful opportunity to develop social skills.

A Slide - simple and fun. It's Play but it's sooo much more.

Physical development- using our legs, arms, core muscles and moving lots of parts to successfully climb.

Social Skills - turn taking, waiting for our friend to finish, joining a queue, lining up, patience

Problem solving - how do I switch from standing to sitting

Confidence- from starting with adult support to completing it independently

Language development- climb, slide, top, bottom, wait, stop, go, fast, slow, lots of opportunities to discuss

Independence- will I sit on my bottom or slide on my belly. How can I do this safely

And much more

It's a Slide but its more. It's learning and it's FUN.

We introduced our water pump activity which has been quite popular. Not necessarily a theme but rather a skill that works towards hand strength, problem solving, tool control, imagination and independence.

Some children brought animals over and washed them, others added cups, filling and pouring. The concentration to keep going develops children's ability to increase attention span to complete tasks which is essential for learning.

Lots of language opportunities are sparked round the table as so many describing words being used. Pump push, sq**rt, warm, cold, wash, fill, empty and so much more.

It might just look like water play but it's so much more.

Return after Christmas is always a gentle reconnection. The room is kept familiar for their return with the tree and decorations remaining. The chatter of christmas wonder, excitement to share their experiences and the packing away is all done with intent.

The snow last week added another wonderful experience as we've talked about snowmen, snowballs and it melting.

This is most likely the first experience of christmas and snow they will remember so it's important not to rush on.

Connection was key for this first full week back. We added in ice as the children talked about snow and cold. We watched what they enjoyed about it and breaking the ice down down was a favourite.

As we move into next week we plan at the children's pace.

It's Play but it's so much more.
