Multi-award winning early learning and development programme designed for babies from birth to 13 months Each week is different, no two classes are the same.

All activities are excellent for developing physical, social and emotional, and language skills, co-ordination, awareness of the world, a love of music and the concentration so needed for further development. Recent research illustrates that the most important time for development is the first year of life. http://www.babysensory.com/en/ClassDetails/clapham

The learning ability of a baby in the first year after the birth is phenomenal. The brain goes through a process of development and specialisation unlike any other time in life. The potential for learning lies in providing conditions that enable babies to develop fully, being aware of the different stages of development that they pass through, observing them to find out how to build on their experiences, and experimenting with different textures, sights, sounds, smells, and tastes. In so doing, babies are given the best possible opportunity to learn about the world while they are still sensitive and absorbent.

From birth, there is a massive burst of synapse formation, which peaks at about three months. With these new connections come many milestones, such as face recognition, colour vision, smiling, and greater control and use of the hands - Dr Lin Day

When it comes to learning in the Baby Sensory® setting, colour could make a difference. There is evidence to suggest that colour can help with motivation and concentration, promote interest and activity, or help soothe and calm babies and toddlers. In this respect, colour matters and our latest blog explores this more.

Soothing lullabies can have a deep, comforting impact on babies and help them to relax and sleep. Repeating melodies share the characteristics of repetitiveness, constancy, and rhythm reminiscent of the womb environment.

Soft classical music of a slow tempo (60 BPM/Largo), or simple melodies such as ‘Say Hello to the Sun’ remind the baby of the mother’s resting heart beat in the womb and can help the newborn relax and drift into peaceful sleep.

What baby toys do you pop in your bag for ‘on the go’ entertainment?

Having a few small, engaging toys in your bag can help immensely when you are out and about and need to keep your baby entertained.

Here are some of our favourites, each with developmental benefits:

• Sensory Donut – Ideal for your baby to grasp, shake or roll. It supports hand-eye coordination, fine motor skills and listening skills.
• Rattle Keys – Excellent for your baby's grasping and shaking skills. The variety of shapes and colours encourages exploration and discovery.

• Mini Moon Rattle – A gentle rattle that helps your baby understand cause and effect.

• Egg Shakers – Easy to hold and great for developing your baby's fine motor skills. The sounds it creates also supports listening skills and auditory development.

• Jungle Teether Soft Book – Soft, textured and easy to grip. Turning the pages enhances tactile exploration and fine motor control.
