I’m Hannah Cunningham, and I’m proud to lead a school where childhood is valued, individuality is celebrated, and children are encouraged to discover what they’re capable of.

We’re celebrating some exciting news… S. Anselm’s School has been commended in the Marketing Award category at the Independent Schools of the Year Awards 2026.

It’s a proud moment for us, and a real reflection of everything that’s happened over the last year as we became independent once again.

A huge well done to our fantastic Marketing Manager, Rachael, and Head of Admissions, Nicky, whose hard work and dedication are at the heart of this award. We’d also like to say a big thank you to CRUSH, Vuetech, Amy Lindley, Morag Boles and everyone who has helped us to build back better.

And most importantly, thank you to our parents, pupils, staff and the wider SA community. This school is for you.

Some people lead by title. Others lead by example.

Today we celebrate Mr Peter Cook, as he prepares for retirement, thanking him for the wisdom, integrity and leadership that have left an enduring mark on S. Anselm’s.

Peter’s connection with S. Anselm’s spans decades. After graduating from Durham University with a B.Ed (Hons) in Mathematics - where he earned double Palatinate honours in rugby and rowing - he began his teaching career here, spending 17 years shaping academic and co-curricular life, introducing Computing, leading Mathematics, managing the timetable and contributing extensively to boarding and games.

He returned to lead us last year, at a defining moment in our history, bringing reassurance, stability and unwavering commitment when it was needed most. As our community came together to secure the future of the school and return to being proudly independent, his calm, thoughtful leadership helped lay the foundations for the exciting future we now look forward to with confidence.

A true gentleman, Peter has never been afraid to roll up his sleeves; from inspiring mathematicians in the classroom to welcoming pupils in the carpark each morning. His leadership also guided us through passing our first inspection with assurance and professionalism, helping us reach an important milestone.

What stood out most is not simply what he has done, but how he has done it: with humility, generosity, good humour and genuine care for every member of our school community.

As Peter embarks on a well-earned retirement, it is especially fitting to celebrate another remarkable achievement. This year he was awarded his retrospective England Rugby Cap for his appearance in Italy against Rome in 1986, following the RFU’s decision to grant full Test status to the fixture - a thoroughly deserved honour recognising his contribution to the game.

Peter, thank you for going above and beyond every single day. Your legacy will be felt long after you leave, and you do so with our deepest respect, gratitude and very best wishes for a long, happy, and well-deserved retirement. You will always be part of the S. Anselm’s family and our story.

Today we say goodbye to our Year 8s.

They leave us for many different paths: boarding schools, state schools, independent schools, home education, scholarships earned through talent and determination, and opportunities as unique as they are.

What connects them isn’t where they’re going, but who they have become.

We’ve watched them grow in confidence, curiosity, resilience and kindness. We’ve seen them discover strengths they didn’t know they had, support one another through challenges, and learn that success is measured not only by achievement, but by character.

This week we’ve witnessed other transitions; our Year 2s (who sing so beautifully in this video) move into the Prep School, our Pre-Schoolers have stayed and played in Reception and our incredible Head, Mr Cook, has started gently passing the baton on to Mrs Cunningham, ready for her to start in September.

To everyone at S. Anselm’s, and especially our Year 8 leavers: thank you for the laughter, the energy, the questions, and the memories. We are proud of all you’ve achieved, but even more excited by all that lies ahead.

Be brave, stay curious, and make your mark. The future is yours to shape.

⭐️ From 2027, we’re planning to welcome our first Year 9 cohort, growing incrementally year on year to provide a seamless journey through those important GCSE years, along with additional, nationally recognised, qualifications.
