A brilliant set of results!

Huge congratulations to all of our Year 11 students who collected GCSE and Vocational results today. We are really proud of all of your hard work and wish you all the best for your Post 16 plans. Well done and enjoy the celebrations!

Before the end of term, over 200 parents, carers, students and friends joined us for our inaugural Creative Arts Celebration, and it was absolutely spectacular!

Our talented students showcased their outstanding Drama, Dance, recorded music performances, and truly breathtaking art and textiles work.

The performances were fantastic, the galleries were buzzing with excitement, and the joy throughout the school was palpable. We couldn't be prouder of our students and the dedication they've shown to their craft. A huge thank you to everyone who attended and supported our young artists – your enthusiasm made the evening truly special.

We are delighted to announce that Lady Manners School has been awarded the prestigious Eco Schools Green Flag with Distinction!

In order to achieve this award, we have had to complete seven actions:
1. Create an eco committee
2. Conduct an environmental review
3. Create an action plan
4. Show how we have tied sustainability into the curriculum
5. Inform and involve people
6. Monitor and evaluate our actions
7. Create an eco code

For our action plan we focused on the three areas of energy, litter and school grounds. Our major achievement was the installation of 453 solar panels last summer, which have been generating large amounts of energy for the school this past school year.

We have also continued to improve our grounds by conducting litter picks, planting trees, improving the biodiversity of the Lennard Wetland and creating pleasant outdoor spaces for students. We have also raised awareness of plastics by organising the Big Plastic Count in spring. A big thank you to everyone who worked on the solar panel installation, helped with the Sunnyside Up garden, planted trees, and counted and picked up plastic. Particular thanks to the Year 9s who led the solar panel assembly, and to Henry in Year 9 who worked tirelessly to complete our green flag application!

The Geography House Quiz is the last House event in the year before the final big event of Sports Day. Students pitted their wits against country silhouettes, geography news, map skills, capital city anagrams, and more.

With thanks to the Year 12 Geography Gurus who expertly ran this year’s event!

Year 7 and Year 8 have been out and about within lessons, developing their data collection skills. Year 7 took a 10-minute walk off-site to label a photograph with knowledge they have gained this year of the geography and geology of the White Peak and Dark Peak - how lucky we are to be able to see both from near school! To get there they followed a map closely, applying their map skills in the real world.

Meanwhile, Year 8 have been understanding how we can cope better with heatwaves through geo-engineering - they collected temperature and windspeed microclimate data from a range of sites in the school grounds to identify what helps a place to feel cool. Much needed in today’s changing climate!

Congratulations to the 48 students who completed their Duke of Edinburgh gold and silver qualifying expedition this weekend. All teams showed incredible teamwork and resilience, hiking over 40 miles in 4 days (gold) or 30 miles in 3 days (silver) across the challenging terrain of Edale, carrying all their kit and food. An incredible achievement! Thank you also to the staff volunteers who gave up their weekend to support delivery of the expedition!

Members of the Farming Club spent a fantastic day at the Great Yorkshire Show in Harrogate. The show is a celebration of farming, food and the countryside and students thoroughly enjoyed the wide range of activities and events. It was a great way to round off the school year, and we look forward to welcoming new Year 7 students to the club in September.

The English Curriculum Area at Lady Manners School has introduced a new curriculum this year, focusing on the teaching of core vocabulary, the big ideas of identity and nature and active learning. Year 7 have been studying ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ and enjoyed recreating the play within a play by the mechanicals. Thanks to 7C for agreeing to be photographed as they delivered their performances in class.
