🦀🎨 Species of the Month for August 🎨🦀
This month, the South Ayrshire Ranger Service has chosen a fascinating little creature as our Species of the Month: the Hermit Crab! 🐚🦀
And we’re celebrating it in a fun and creative mandala style! ✨🌸
Come along on Thursday, get creative, and discover this amazing little creature while creating your very own hermit crab-inspired artwork.
Everybody is welcome!
No artistic experience needed — just bring your imagination!

Next Tuesday 18th August, we’re heading to the gorgeous Rozelle House Museum and Galleries for another super fun and creative session... Here’s a little sneak peek at what we’re going to do… 👀✨

Come along and draw your very own treasure map with us 🏴‍☠️🗺️ — let your imagination run wild, we'll create together a map filled with mysterious places, hidden treasures and adventures, and by the same occasion we’ll also be celebrating the arrival in Ayr of the gorgeous Galeón Andalucía!

🇮🇹 Italian Night Out is back! 🇮🇹
Join us for a relaxed evening of Italian conversation, laughter and friendship at The Auld Toy Shop, Newmarket Street, Ayr.
📅 Friday 7th August
🕔 From 5.00 pm
Whether you're a fluent speaker, just learning Italian, have Italian roots, or simply love Italy, everyone is warmly welcome. Come along to meet new people, share stories, practise a little Italian (or none at all!), and enjoy a lovely evening together.
✨ This is also an amazing opportunity to discover The Auld Toy Shop, a beautiful historic space that stood abandoned for many years and is now being lovingly brought back to life by narture cic. By coming along—and with your wee donation—you'll be supporting the fantastic work Narture is doing to restore one of Ayr's beautiful historic buildings (among others!!) and transform it into a vibrant creative hub for the whole community.
🥂 Bring your own drink, and a small donation towards the venue owner to help with electricity and running costs will be greatly appreciated.
These evenings are all about building community, celebrating culture, and making new friendships in a relaxed and welcoming setting.

Join us tomorrow from 7pm at The Tree House, Ayr, for our pot de l'amitié! Whether you're a native French speaker, learning the language, have French connections, or simply love French culture, everyone is welcome.
This is a wonderful opportunity to meet new people, practise your French in a relaxed setting, share experiences, and help bring together Ayr's growing French-speaking community. No pressure, no lessons—just good conversation, good company, and a warm atmosphere.

🌿 Species of the Month: Bladderwrack 🌿
This month, South Ayrshire Ranger Service and South Ayrshire Libraries are celebrating bladderwrack, a fascinating seaweed commonly found along our shores.
This drawing is a deconstructed portrait of bladderwrack: how easy and fun it can be to break a subject down into simple shapes and lines!
A little reminder that both drawing classes today will be held upstairs in Local History – a lovely opportunity to discover another corner of our beautiful library. We look forward to seeing you there! 😊

💙 Empathy Week at Carnegie Library 💙
Join us this Thursday (5pm for the adults, 3.30 for the kids!) for a fun and relaxing drawing activity celebrating Empathy Week with South Ayrshire Libraries! 🐾✨ Tomorrow's Art Class: Celebrating the Magnificent Greyhound ✨🐾
This week, we'll be drawing one of the most elegant, gentle, and misunderstood dogs in the world: the Greyhound.
Did you know that 2026 marks 100 years since greyhound racing was introduced in the UK? While many people associate these beautiful dogs with racing, those who know them best understand that they are loving, affectionate companions who thrive in family homes. Often described as "45mph couch potatoes," they are just as happy snoozing on a sofa as they are stretching their legs on a walk.
As artists, we have a wonderful opportunity to celebrate their grace, beauty, and character while raising awareness about their welfare. Scotland has already taken the important step of ending greyhound racing, recognising that these dogs deserve a future focused on care, companionship, and kindness.
Tomorrow's class will be a chance to appreciate these extraordinary animals through art, learn a little about their story, and perhaps inspire others to see Greyhounds for what they truly are: gentle souls who make incredible pets.
Join us for a relaxing and mindful drawing session as we honour these beautiful dogs. 🐕❤️

What a wonderful week we have shared with our friends from our French twin town, Jumelage Saint Germain en Laye / Ayr 💙🤍❤️
Over the past few days, we have enjoyed fantastic visits across South Ayrshire, delicious dinners, and we were delighted to attend a special reception at the County Buildings, where the Lord Provost warmly welcomed our guests, and the amazing Ayr Choral Union sang in French!! celebrating the enduring friendship between our communities.
The week was filled with memorable moments, great conversations, laughter, and lovely food shared together. These exchanges remind us of the value of cultural connections and the friendships that continue to grow year after year.
Merci à nos amis français pour leur bonne humeur, leur amitié et tous les merveilleux souvenirs partagés. Nous avons hâte de vous retrouver en 2027 pour poursuivre cette belle aventure ensemble !

Species of the month for South Ayrshire Ranger Service: the damselfly!
This month's drawing celebrates the beautiful damselfly, here alongside the serotonin molecule – often called the "happiness chemical" – dripping colour into the whimsical world around it.
Damselflies remind us to slow down, enjoy the little things, and appreciate the beauty that's all around us. Life is short, so take time to notice the colours, the wildlife, and the moments that make you smile.
Next Thursday, as always, at Carnegie South Ayrshire Libraries, Adults class — 5:00 PM
Kids class — 3:30 PM. Come as you are! 🌷
