Costume Week ended in brilliant style with our 12–15 year olds!
Starting with a fun, silly challenge game (with staff bravely joining in!), the energy was high right from the start—beautifully captured by our visiting professional photographer.

The group then dove into the costume box, trying out multiple characters and experimenting with different looks and ideas. From there, they used props to create their own individual stories, bringing their favourite characters to life in imaginative and expressive ways.

So much creativity, confidence and personality on show—a fantastic finale to Costume Week at our autistic drama sessions in Gaiety 2!

This pilot program of autistic drama classes is supported by the Boshier Grant Scheme administered by the National Autistic Society.

A bunch of talented performers from Braehead Primary school’s P4-P7 classes joined us for a week of games, crafts, song, dance, and of course performance! 🌟

At the end of the week, they invited friends and family and shared their performance Battle of the Bands, all about two rival bands: The Starlights and The Sweethearts. Their performance shone a light behind the scenes of what it’s really like to be a pop star under pressure, and celebrated friendship and self-expression 🎸🎨👑

This project was part of the Gaiety’s Young Start Ayr North project. Young Start is funded by the Dormant Assets Scheme with priorities set by the Scottish Government. Funding is distributed by The National Lottery Community Fund.

🌱 Something exciting is growing at Memory Lane Café… 💚

We’re delighted to share that Memory Lane Café is partnering with River Garden Auchincruive as we continue to grow our dementia-friendly programme beyond the walls of The Gaiety and into our wider community.

This October, Memory Lane Café will be heading to River Garden for our first collaborative session, bringing together the warmth and friendship of the café with the beautiful surroundings and community spirit of River Garden. 🌿☕🍂

And this is only the beginning…

Together, we’ll be exploring future opportunities around nature, gardening, wellbeing, volunteering and dementia-friendly experiences, creating more ways for people living with dementia, carers, families and friends to connect and enjoy meaningful time together.

🎭🎵 Gaiety Summer School were full of fun and hilarity with our young people ✨

During our second week, we had two events running aged 5-8 and aged 9-12 who worked toward their own performances for our comedy movies special. Each group visited films such as Jumanji, K-Pop Demon Hunters, and Toy story, and created fun and exciting shows that they performed in front of their grown-ups at the end of the week.

Let us introduce our team of facilitators at Gaiety 2!

Jade is our Lead Creative Engagement Practitioner at The Gaiety, where she leads the youth and musical theatre classes with Creative Engagement. She also works with various creative projects in the community too.

Recently, Jade worked with our young performers to bring Seussical the Musical to the Gaiety stage, travelled to Aberdeen with a group of young people for the NFYT programme, and has been keeping busy with summer school classes throughout the holidays 🌟🎶

🏇Something exciting is coming to Memory Lane Café….💚

We're delighted to share that Memory Lane Café is partnering with Ayr Racecourse for as very special September Café.

This September, the Ayr Racecourse will be supporting us with our Ayr Gold Cup Reminiscence session, bringing along materials to help is take a trip down memory lane and explore the stories, history and memories connected with one of Ayr's best-known landmarks. 🏇☕

We're really excited about this new community connection - and we'll be sharing more about what we have planned over the coming weeks. 👀
