Wellington School, Ayr is an independent day school for girls and boys between the ages of 3 and 18 years with a focus on realising the full potential of every child in a warm and friendly environment. Consisting of three impressive tu

rreted B Listed buildings, overlooking the sea and adjacent to the broad expanse of Ayr’s Low Green, Wellington offers children the best possible start in life through excellent teaching, high quality pastoral care and a rich choice of extra-curricular activities. The school has an excellent academic record at Higher and Advanced Higher levels and almost all pupils go on to a university of their choice. Small class sizes are an excellent base from which pupils choose 8 subjects to study in S3 and S4, whilst 18 subjects are offered at both Higher and Advanced Higher levels. Wellington school prides itself on the smooth transition between the Junior and Secondary stages and special arrangements for P7 Remove allow pupils to spend almost half their week with specialist Senior School teachers. Putting a strong emphasis on the individual, the success of the school is not wholly academic. With its own playing fields and pavilion, Wellington School has nurtured Scottish international representatives in a range of sports, including hockey, rugby and curling. Pupils hold prestigious awards both locally and nationally in art and music and the school is fortunate to count two former pupils as classical musicians of global renown. Awarded by the British Council, this accolade recognises the school’s efforts in bringing the wider world into the classroom. Embedding international education across all subjects and stages is a high priority at Wellington, and a successful partnership programme with a school in Jaipur, India gives a flavour of what is available to pupils. Regular pupil exchanges to European countries (as part of the ERASMUS programme) provide an enriching experience for participants. As well as having a great reputation for international education, Wellington provides outdoor experiences at all levels, from the youngest children who attend its popular and thriving Outdoor Nursery to the many senior pupils who participate in the Duke of Edinburgh Award programme. As a registered charity, Wellington School provides a means-tested bursary programme that is open to applicants at any stage in the Junior and Senior Schools. Visitors are always given a warm welcome and staff are happy to discuss how your child could benefit from an independent education in Ayrshire. Pupils may join the school at any stage – please do not hesitate to contact the Admissions Registrar on 01292 269321. Twitter

On Friday, five of our senior pupils had the fantastic opportunity to attend the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland to receive their Music Leaders Awards.

As part of working towards the award, the pupils have developed their leadership and communication skills by working with our Junior Orchestra and Clarinet Club, supporting and encouraging our younger musicians while also continuing to develop their own performance skills. We're incredibly proud of all five pupils and it was wonderful to see their hard work and commitment recognised at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.

A group of 15 senior players travelled to Holland on a Hockey tour before returning to school in August.

The 4-day trip included:
The team played two fixtures (AMHC Alkmaar and MHC Heerhugowaard - both of which they were victorious in).
Spectating the FIH Hockey World Cup (Netherlands, New Zealand, Japan, India, Pakistan, England and Wales).
Ajax stadium tour.
A pro coaching session at Pinoke Club.
Amsterdam canal cruise.
Shopping.
An evening bowling.

This was a wonderful and worthwhile trip for the squad where they bonded as a team and witnessed some world class hockey. The squad hope to build on their success in the Netherlands in their upcoming fixtures and cups this season.

Please come out and support our teams in their fixtures at Doonside - all information for fixtures can be found on the school website:

Back in 2020, our P7 pupils told us what they loved most about life at Wellington. Fast forward six years, and those same pupils are now heading into their final year of school - and we caught up with them again to hear all about their senior school experience. 💫

We are looking forward to welcoming our current P7 parents into school on Monday from 4-5pm, where you'll have the chance to visit your child's classroom, meet Mrs Bradley & Mrs Bathgate, and find out more about the exciting year ahead!
