When your child is finding reading, spelling or writing harder than expected, it can feel worrying and confusing. You may be wondering what’s going on, how best to help, or what support to ask for. My assessments are designed to give you clear answers, reassurance, and a plan that makes sense for your child.
I take a gentle, child‑centred approach so your child feels relaxed and confident throughout the assessment. Everything is explained in simple, friendly language, and the pace is adapted to suit their needs. Many children even enjoy the process once they realise it isn’t a test they can “fail” — it’s simply a chance to understand how their brain works.

You’ll receive a detailed report that covers:
• Your child’s strengths and the things they naturally do well
• The areas they find more difficult and why
• Whether dyslexia is present
• Clear, practical recommendations you can use at home and school

Spelling fact
🤔 Why does “mother” have an o but sounds like /u/?
English spelling can feel confusing… but there’s a reason! 👇
📜 It goes back to medieval writing.
In medieval times, scribes wrote by hand using ink and quills.

Some letters were made up of lots of straight lines:
👉 m, n, u, v
When these letters were next to each other, they became hard to read:
➡️ mum could look like: mum / nun / uun
Everything looked the same!

✍️ So what did scribes do?
They started using “o” instead of “u” in some words
to make them clearer to read.

📖 That’s why we now have words like:
• mother
• brother
• love
• come
• some
Even though they sound like /u/, they use “o” ✅
🌟 Key message:
👉 English spelling isn’t random
👉 It’s shaped by history

What a great day Sue and I had sharing what we do at an event aimed at showcasing services and activities focused around SEN. Was inspiring to meet other dedicated professionals, parents and a wonderful group of young people.
