Harvest Festival House Competition (Secondary)

Our Harvest Festival collection is back, and this year students can also earn House Points through their donations.

We’re asking students to bring in food donations on their House collection day:

👉 Attenborough – Monday 5 October
👉 Curie – Tuesday 6 October
👉 King – Wednesday 7 October
👉 Nightingale – Thursday 8 October
👉 Seacole & Turing – Friday 9 October

All donations will support the Aylesbury Vineyard Storehouse and local families in need.

Suggested items include tinned food, rice, pasta, sauces, cereal, biscuits, tea, coffee and UHT milk. Please make sure all items are unopened and in date.

The House donating the most items will receive the most House Points, with the winning House announced on Monday 12 October.

Every donation makes a difference. Thank you, as always, for your generosity and support.

Yondr Phone Free Schools Programme – Information for Parents and Carers

From Monday 2 November, Aylesbury Vale Academy will be introducing Yondr pouches for all students.

Students will place their mobile phone, smart watch and other smart devices into a Yondr pouch when they arrive at school. The pouch will remain with them throughout the day and will be unlocked when they leave school.

The aim is to support a calmer, more focused learning environment and reduce distractions during the school day.

We are holding two information sessions for parents and carers who would like to find out more:

Drop Everything and Read!

Next Friday 9 October at 10am, the whole school will be taking part in a Drop Everything and Read session to mark World Mental Health Day.

We’re asking all students to bring in something to read — a book, magazine, newspaper or graphic novel — and join us for 10 minutes of quiet reading.

Taking a short break to read can help reduce stress, improve mood and give us a chance to pause during a busy day.

Please remind your child to bring reading material in next Friday and be ready to Drop Everything and Read at 10am!

Celebrating National Poetry Day at AVA

This week, our KS3 literacy classes enjoyed a special poetry lesson to celebrate National Poetry Day.

This year’s theme is Wonder, encouraging students to explore the power of words, imagination and creativity.

National Poetry Day is a fantastic opportunity to inspire a love of poetry and creative writing. Research from the National Literacy Trust shows that children who read poetry are more likely to write poetry themselves, while those who write poetry are also more likely to enjoy writing more generally.

Our students had the chance to explore poetry, experiment with language and discover where their own creativity could take them.

Open Evening – Thursday 24 September, 6pm–8pm
