Day 12, Saturday night, and if you're anything like me, you're looking forward to Strictly. If you've ever fancied learning to dance like they do, then Joanna from JBD Fitness & Dance is the woman for you! Joanna is a member of our neighbouring region The Athena Network - West Chllterns

Here's a little more about her and her business:

❓ Tell us a little about you and your business

🌟 I help women over 35 to feel better, look better and move better through fitness, dance and nutrition; in more socially interactive times I also create a magical moment for wedding couples and their guests to treasure by creating bespoke first Wedding dances.

This year been very different than I could have ever imagined, I never thought that I’d be delivering most of my classes and course online.

There has most definitely been a mix of emotions coming up for my for me this year... accepting and embracing that we must all do our bit to reduce the rate of infection and protect our wonderful, wonderful NHS, (some of whom are attending my online classes and I absolutely could not be proud of each and everyone one of them for finding their me time.) I feel so so grateful that I find myself surrounded by love, hope and a community that thrives on supporting one another.

❓ Tell us a bit about why you do what you do

🌟 I love to empower women to take control of their actions and their lifestyle. I personally enjoy being active, eating well and having fun, whilst encouraging others to also lead an active and healthy life. I love to share my story and experience, and to enable others to step outside of their comfort zone and into their power, by lending a helping hand and lots of accountability, but mainly to have lots of fun with friends in a supportive environment.

❓ Who do you help and how?

🌟 I help women over 35 to achieve their fitness and lifestyle goals. I do this through fitness classes, self empowerment days and meditation retreats. Our most recent addition is all taught online. In 2020 our Lift Lean strength and resistance training programmes have transformed how I, as a 45 year old peri-menopausal woman, both look and feel, so I absolutely had to share them with my members old and new, who have been blown away by the results.

❓ Why did you join Athena and how has it helped you and your business?

💜 I first joined Athena, after transitioning to create my own dance and fitness business that included my passion for ballroom and Latin dance (from there our wedding packages were born). I knew I wanted to offer something more than just fitness classes, and was experiencing my own life challenges (specifically with fertility) And I knew I wanted to share my experiences with others. I had a budding idea for self empowerment days and I needed help to develop them.

Since joining Athena I've developed my business to new heights through collaboration with other experts in their field. For example our empowerment days are co hosted by a nutritional therapist I met at Athena. And just before Covid, I'd launched mediation retreats with a sound therapist who I also met through Athena.

I'm also delighted to have Athena members as part of my current online memberships, including our new lift lean course 💜

We returned to our first indoor class last night. Fairford Leys Centre and Jo, did a fabulous job of making us feel safe.
It was so good seeing each other. Jo has been brilliant with her online classes since March. She has kept us together and kept me sane 🤪 So happy we can meet in person again at last all COVID secure and socially distanced of course.
I can’t recommend JBD Fitness and Dance highly enough.

Finding ways to keep active when you are stuck indoors can be difficult, can't it?!

Longtime Florence supporter and Queen of the Midnight Walk Warm-up, Jo Beardsmore-Dilks of JBD Fitness & Dance, is offering a free aerobics class to all Florrie's Volunteers and supporters this WEDNESDAY at 10.30am via Facebook Live.

Then go onto the Group page on Wednesday at 10.30am and click on the Live Video post, and you should see Jo in her dance studio at home. It's almost like being in a real class!

'Monique makes the classes so much fun for the children and the adults and there are always lots of smiles all round when we are in class. We have been taking Max swimming with Monique since he was 4 months old and he has gained so much confidence in the water as he has grown older (he’s now 2 years old). As parents, my husband and I have grown in confidence as well. We’ve just come back from our first family holiday abroad, where we spent lots of time in the pool with Max practicing what we have learnt in class. We truly believe that if it wasn’t for Puddle Ducks and Monique, we wouldn’t have been as confident in the water as we were on holiday.'

If you know me, you will know public speaking (especially in front of my peers) is so far out my comfort zone! That’s just one of the reasons this picture makes me smile, like really smile as I put myself out there, way out of my comfort zone.

The other reason is that it was taken by my beautiful friend Jane Mann who was one of the beautiful humans I have had the pleasure to call my friend. Although we all miss you terribly, a part of you lives on in the beautiful memories we made together and those you selflessly captured for us all ❤️❤️

Aww 5 years ago today we held our very first Empowerment day at the beautiful Champneys Tring, we even had a blanket of snow to welcome our guests.

It was a wonderfully educational and stunning day too (and we finished the day on the hot tub together after exploring the spa at the end of our sessions too).

What I love about this memory is that the idea to spend a full day submerging ourselves in wellness and self care, sprang from my own struggles with my fertility journey!! After 10 years and multiple losses, the journey had been a bumpy ride and I had most certainly lost myself at times 🤔

I felt I wanted to share some of the things that had helped me to feel more myself with others and maybe make a positive difference to Judy one life. I had been working with a nutritional therapist myslef so wanted to bring someone people could trust in, so people could investigate any personal issues…to have an easy direct port of call so to speak if they wanted to look into blood tests or any other personal avenues ♥️

I was overjoyed that Jenny Phillips agreed to work with us on these wonderful events and that they really did make a difference to the lives of all involved…

And you see by the 1at anniversary of these events I was a mommy myself and indeed I was delighted to have Rosie with me at only 6 weeks old for one of our events the following year, how fantastic is that. It turns out sharing really does help everyone… even those leading the events sometimes ❤️
