We are super proud to be supporting this weekend’s stretcher carry fundraiser by Surrey Search & Rescue.

Providing an up to date view of where the team are courtesy of our online tracking software, and getting hands on for some of the team helping carry the load.

It’s the final countdown! Bags are packed, boots are polished (ish!). It's our biggest fundraising event!

Tomorrow our volunteers start their journey with Big Ted travelling 100 miles across Surrey within 48 hours.

All logistics have been finalised. The team are resting and preparing. This time tomorrow, boots will be on the ground and we will be going.

Theres still time to vote on our last two challenges, donate to our cause, share our message with friends and family, or even follow along to enjoy this adventure with us.

🌲 We’re Hiring – Outdoor Learning Instructors (Alternative Provision)
Start Date: 5th January 2026 (or sooner)

School of Outdoors is expanding our Alternative Provision (AP) team and we’re looking for compassionate, energetic people who enjoy working outdoors and supporting young people who thrive outside the classroom.

We are recruiting for:
• 6-month or 12-month fixed-term contracts
• OR fixed-term freelance roles (self-employed)
We’re flexible on contract type to ensure we hire the right person.
Equivalent to £160–£180 per day (experience & qualifications dependent)

You must be able to travel and work across Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire or Reading.

🌿 About the Role
You’ll be delivering 1:1 and small-group outdoor learning sessions with young people who have a range of SEMH needs, SEND profiles, ADHD/ASD, or who struggle in mainstream education.

Your work will focus on:
• Building safe, trusting relationships
• Supporting emotional regulation
• Delivering engaging, practical and experiential outdoor learning
• Linking sessions to EHCP outcomes and meaningful life skills
• Helping young people feel valued, capable and confident
• Support with English, Maths or Science where identified

Every day is different — and the work makes a real impact.

👤 Who We’re Looking For
You don’t need to be a traditional “teacher,” but you do need:
• Experience working with young people (education, coaching, youth work, care, outdoor instruction, mentoring)
• Patience, warmth and emotional intelligence
• Confidence delivering activity-based or outdoor learning
• Ability to work independently and think creatively
• Good communication and professional boundaries
• Eligibility to work in the UK
• A full, clean driving licence and valid business car insurance (or willingness to obtain it)
• Willingness to work 1:1 with young people, including travel in your car / on public transport

Desirable:
• NGB qualifications (paddlesport, climbing, MTB, Lowland Leader, DofE etc.)
• Experience supporting young people with ADHD or ASD
• Trauma-informed knowledge

Working closely with the team, you’ll help ensure the smooth running of all School of Outdoors events. Based between home and our High Wycombe store, with travel across the South East. This varied role includes:

✔ Scheduling and supporting our amazing instructor team
✔ Managing equipment, vehicles & warehouse operations
✔ Coordinating logistics with campsites and venues
✔ Making sure every event runs safely, smoothly and to the highest standard
✔ Supporting new instructors and contributing to meaningful, positive experiences for young people

💼 What We’re Looking For

We’d love to hear from people with:
• Excellent organisation & communication skills
• A proactive, problem-solving approach
• Ability to manage multiple priorities
• A passion for outdoor education
• Full clean driving licence
• Experience in operations, logistics, or outdoor events is a bonus.

🎁 What We Offer

• Salary £36,000–£42,000 (depending on experience)
• 35 hours per week (flexible working available)

✨ Flexible contracts available starting in September – from 6–12 weeks through to the whole academic year (ideally 3 days a week, 39 weeks). Whether you can commit long-term or for a shorter block, we’d love to hear from you.
