Long Crendon Pre-School & Out of School Club

As we come to the end of another busy and exciting term, we wanted to take a moment to reflect on all the wonderful learning and fun we’ve shared together!

This term, the children have thoroughly enjoyed exploring different animals, their habitats, and how we can help take care of our world. Over the past two weeks, our focus has turned to the changing seasons. We’ve been learning all about Spring—what it means and how it brings new life and changes to the environment around us.

We’ve also been getting into the Easter spirit with a range of fun activities. One of our favourites was making delicious Easter nests!

In maths, the children have been developing their counting skills using blocks and spring-themed number activities. We’ve also been exploring the concept of weight—learning how to compare objects and understand what is heavier or lighter. The children particularly enjoyed putting these skills into practice by making their own playdough, carefully measuring and balancing the ingredients.

During our pre-phonics sessions, we’ve been listening closely to the sounds in our environment and working together to identify what might be making them. Our “silly soup” sessions have continued to be a big hit, and this week we focused on the letter X.

Looking ahead to next term, we have lots of exciting topics planned! We’ll be learning about different types of holidays, exploring Summer, and discovering why exercise is important for our bodies. Our older children will also begin preparing for their transition to school in July.

This week has been so much fun as we’ve been exploring extinct animals! The kids have absolutely loved learning about dinosaurs—finding out their names and discovering whether they were meat-eaters or plant-eaters. We had a great time practicing our fine motor skills by searching for dinosaur bones, and our colour skills came into play as we helped put the dinosaurs back into their bowls. We also enjoyed exploring the dinosaur tuff tray and helping to free the dinosaurs from their ice eggs. We then worked on our number skills by matching each dinosaur egg to the correct number. Plus, we practiced some pencil control by tracing the dinosaur’s path—it was a busy but exciting week!

This half term we kicked off our new cooking club with Sharon, and everyone has been so enthusiastic. Each week, a different group of children gets to try their hand at cooking, and so far, we’ve all had loads of fun making delicious pizzas together!

We’ve also been busy preparing something special for Mother’s Day—a sweet surprise for someone very important.

Looking ahead, next week we’re excited to learn all about Spring and why it’s the season of new growth. We’ll also be celebrating St. Patrick’s Day by trying out some tasty Irish potato snacks. It’s going to be a wonderful week!

Wow, what an exciting week we've had here at Long Crendon Pre-School! We've been busy celebrating Holi, World Book Day, and Communication Week, all while exploring amazing lifecycles!

We kicked things off by chatting about seeds and what they need to grow. The children loved planting beans and can't wait to watch them sprout in their clear pots. We also learned about the lifecycle of a frog and even got to experience a mini frog pond with frogspawn made from chia seeds—it was so fun!

Then, we got colourful with Holi! The kids made bright patterns using rice and paint, crafted beautiful Rangoli designs with gems and playdough, and enjoyed some outdoor painting in the sunshine—so much laughter and creativity!

We also listened to the story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar and then made gorgeous butterflies with glue and tissue paper—such lovely art!

Celebrating Communication Week and World Book Day was fantastic! We had delightful live story sessions with authors, fun story time outdoors in the sun, and engaging activities themed around The Gingerbread Man and Room on the Broom. The costumes were incredible—everyone looked amazing, and it really made the week special!

Looking ahead, next week we're diving into the world of extinct animals and exploring why they disappeared. The children are so excited to learn about dinosaurs—they can't wait!

This week we have been learning all about our pets and what they need to be well looked after. We enjoyed sharing the different types of pets we have at home and had great fun learning about their names and how we care for them.

The children had lots of creative fun painting their own pets on cling film. In maths, we practised our counting skills using doggy treats and cat pegs. Our vet role-play area was very popular, with the children taking great care of the animals and learning about how to keep pets healthy.

We read the story Dear Zoo and discussed which animals make suitable pets and which do not. The children shared some fantastic ideas and showed great understanding.

We focused on the letter T this week and went on a garden hunt to find things beginning with that sound. We discovered lots of wonderful examples, including tyre, tree, track and table. In maths, we have been learning all about the number 7, practising counting, recognising and representing it in different ways.

Next week, our class will be learning all about lifecycles—how plants and animals start out, how they grow, and what they become!

We are looking forward to another exciting week of learning!

We've had such an exciting week here at Long Crendon Pre-School as we learnt all about minibeasts! We had fun practicing our numbers with the Ten Little Bugs, enjoyed some time in the maths classroom with Spinderella, and went on fantastic adventures with Superworm. The kids loved searching for minibeasts in the garden and exploring their prints in playdough and sand—such brilliant discoveries!

We also celebrated the Chinese New Year with lively music, dancing, and dressing up, and we shared a lovely Valentines lunch filled with flowers and hearts.

Last week, we went on an exciting underwater adventure filled with wonderful sea creatures! We enjoyed hearing the story of Tiddler, and exploring the amazing places the Whale took the snail. We had fun catching all the fishes and matching them to their correct numbers, and we also got creative colour mixing on our colourful fish.

This week, we’ve been exploring the woods and all the fantastic creatures that live there. It’s been so much fun retelling the story of the Gruffalo with our story tray, painting all the different things we see in the woods, and helping the Owl Babies find their mummy.

We also focused on the letter R this week, learning its sound and adding things that start with R to our silly soup — we even included a Rhinoceros!

Next week, we’re super excited to go on a bug hunt to discover all the tiny minibeasts hiding in our outdoor space!

We've had such a wonderful few weeks since Christmas! It’s been a busy and exciting term as we’ve been exploring all about animals, their habitats, what they need to survive, and how they use their senses to find food. So far, we’ve delved into the jungle, learned about farm animals, and discovered polar creatures. We had so much fun making drinks at our jungle café, getting a bit muddy with farm trays, and using our senses to feel the chilly environment where polar animals live. We even enjoyed sliding through the snow and feeling the icy waters on our feet during our polar obstacle course.
We’ve been having so much fun exploring math with our animal friends, learning about what’s bigger and smaller! We've also been working on our pre-phonics skills, exploring sounds all around us and focusing on the letter P.
Next week, we’re going on an exciting underwater adventure to discover the amazing creatures that live deep beneath the sea!

Just one more day until our Christmas break and only six more days until Santa drops by! Everyone here at Long Crendon Pre-School and Out of School Club is feeling super excited! The kids have been busy with all sorts of festive activities and games — with a little extra sparkle of glitter thrown in for fun!
We want to take a moment to wish you all a very merry Christmas and a happy New Year, and thank you so much for all the generous gifts!

We've had such an amazing Christmas week together! We've been busy with lots of fun holiday crafts, helping the animals out of the ice, making gingerbread men with our maths playdough, and finding out how snowmen feel when they melt. On Wednesday, we enjoyed our nativity—it was so wonderful to see our special people watching us sing Christmas songs and telling the story of Mary, Joseph, and baby Jesus. After the nativity, we were thrilled to have a very special visitor—Father Christmas himself came to see us! We were all so excited! Then we had a fantastic Christmas party filled with games and dance party fun. After all that, we were pretty hungry, so Mrs. Julie made us the most delicious Christmas lunch, and we all got a little gift to open.
