SEND and Inclusion Experts Amjad Ali and SENsible SENCo Coming to AGS

We’re delighted to welcome SEND and Inclusion experts Amjad Ali Try This Teaching and SENsible SENCO to Aylesbury Grammar School for this year’s Aylesbury Vale Challenge Partners Conference on Thursday 19 November 2026.

The conference, Going All-Inclusive: Packing your Toolkit for every Learner, will provide practical, high-impact strategies to strengthen inclusive teaching and improve outcomes for every learner.

INSPIRATIONAL SPEAKERS PROGRAMME 🎓

It was a pleasure to welcome back Old Aylesburian Jon Evans (Hampden ’99) to AGS as part of our Sixth Form Inspirational Speakers Programme.

Now Chief Finance Officer at Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust, Jon shared his career journey, the lessons he has learned along the way and the importance of finding purpose and fulfilment in your work.

A brilliant opportunity for our students to hear from an OA who is making a real difference in the NHS.

As we welcomed our new Year 7s to AGS this term, it was wonderful to look back at photos from their Year 6 Transition Days earlier this year.

🏉 AGS Rugby Tour to South Africa 2026 🇿🇦

This summer, 66 students and 7 staff travelled to South Africa for an unforgettable rugby tour, with 5 flights, 8 rugby matches and countless experiences and memories to take away.

From Cape Town to Durban, the tour gave our students the opportunity to experience an incredible country, both on and off the pitch. There were challenging fixtures against Bishop’s, Paarl Boys’ and Durban High School, opportunities to watch top-quality South African schoolboy rugby, and plenty of time to enjoy everything the country had to offer.

The group visited Langa township and the JAG Foundation, explored Robben Island and Table Mountain, enjoyed jetboating and surfing, visited Kings Park, watched the DHL Stormers and took part in a game drive at Ubizane Wildlife Reserve.

A huge thank you to England Rugby Travel Tours for their support throughout the tour and to Akuma Sports for their support with our tour kit and their generous donation of kit to the JAG Foundation.

Thank you to everyone for their support, to our students for their hard work, efforts and excellent company, and to all the staff who supported the tour. A particular thank you to Mr Ramsbottom for the enormous amount of work behind the scenes and throughout the tour.

A fantastic tour, plenty of progress on and off the pitch, and memories that will last a lifetime. 🇿🇦🏉

Annual Memorial Rugby Match

In three weeks’ time, we will come together to celebrate the lives of Old Aylesburians we have tragically lost over the last few years.

The Annual Memorial Rugby Match takes place on Saturday 10 October, as AGS take on Princethorpe College, with kick-off at 10.30am.

Everyone is welcome, and it would be wonderful to see as many of the AGS and OA community there as possible.

🎭 Year 8 Masks

Our Year 8 students have certainly delivered on their summer assignment, creating an amazing selection of masks.

Creative use of egg boxes, papier-mâché, milk bottles and even real crab legs has transformed the Art room walls into a colourful display of imagination and creativity.

⚽ OAs Back on the Pitch

Last week saw the return of our annual Old Aylesburian 6-a-side Football Tournament, with 10 teams taking part, including a staff team, alongside individual OAs joining forces to make up teams.

The AGS grounds were buzzing with familiar faces, old friendships, competitive football and plenty of good-natured banter. It was fantastic to see so many OAs back at School, reconnecting with each other and enjoying a brilliant evening together.

A special mention to Pioneers ’86, who brought some wonderful AGS football history with them, including former Geography teacher Mr Bob Pain, who helped establish competitive football at AGS in 1986.

🏆 Congratulations to Rob Churchill (Paterson ’16) and his team, who lifted the trophy after a series of closely fought matches.

The football was followed by pizza, drinks and plenty of catching up, with some OAs also taking the opportunity to look around School and reminisce about their time here.

A huge thank you to everyone who took part, and especially to Mr Barrie and Mr Duggan for organising and running such a fantastic tournament.

What a brilliant celebration of football, friendship and the Old Aylesburian community. We’re already looking forward to next year.

🔬 STEM Club | Gold CREST Award

Congratulations to Ayan (Paterson 13) and Mutahhar (Phillips 13) on completing their Gold CREST Award in Biology and Medicine.

Through their work in STEM Club, and with guidance from a student doctor, they have developed valuable academic and collaborative skills. Their project has inspired them to continue their research at university, with the ambition of eventually sharing their findings with the wider medical community.

🚀 A remarkable STEM achievement

A huge congratulations to Sree (Hampden 13) on winning the national ITZA ‘Mission to Mars’ competition with his innovative design for a sustainable Martian habitat.

Sree was one of just three students from across the UK selected to attend the 2026 The Villars Institute Symposium in Switzerland on an all-expenses-paid trip, where he became a lifelong Fellow of the Villars Institute.

The experience gave Sree the opportunity to meet leading thinkers and like-minded students from around the world, while developing his confidence, creativity and leadership skills.

Reflecting on his experience, Sree said: “Never think that something is too far out of reach for you.”

An incredible achievement and a fantastic example of where curiosity, ambition and a willingness to take on a challenge can lead.
