Last week we explored blackberries 💜

We headed out for a lovely walk around the farm where the children enjoyed picking blackberries whilst comparing all the different shapes and sizes 🌿🌱

We then brought the blackberries back to nursery and we got creative 🎨 we made beautiful blackberry tie dye, painted using the berries, created blackberry play doh and even had a go at hapazome - using the natural pigments from the plants to create prints on fabric 🌸🌙

The children enjoyed a full week of exploring, experimenting and getting messy whilst learning new things through nature ✨💜

This week at Wendover has been all about exploring our senses and we’ve had lots of fun! We started the week off taking a sensory walk to see how it felt on our feet, explored the different smells of herbs, played with bubbly water, created fruit teas, took some time to relax under lights and helped to make Lavender playdough! 🪻💡🍊🫖🌿

📍Great Missenden- Our theme this week is Blackberries. Today at circle time, we used some blackberries that we collected from around the site. We squashed them up to create our very own blackberry paint! We then explored the paint using a range of different materials, creating lots of beautiful marks, patterns and designs while developing our creativity and curiosity 🎨

Last week at 📍The Shepherds Hut in Great Missenden, our focus was all about sunflowers 🌻. We enjoyed a lovely walk to the beautiful sunflower fields at Peterley Manor Farm, where the children were amazed by just how tall the sunflowers had grown. We watched the sprinklers watering the fields and talked about the life cycle of a sunflower learning how these magnificent flowers grow from tiny seeds. Our creative side flourished as we painted our own beautiful sunflowers and worked together to decorate a giant cardboard sunflower using seeds, paint and tissue paper. We also practised our fine motor skills by carefully cutting petal shapes from yellow paper with scissors. The children had lots of fun exploring our new tractors 🚜 helping to develop their physical skills as they practised using the pedals and steering. To finish off a wonderful week, our friendly alpaca neighbour came to say hello and enjoyed a tasty leafy snack! 🦙 🍃

This week was all about flowers at Wendover! 🌼 We painted with Lavender and Daisies, made beautiful pictures with dried flowers, created our very own floral nature perfume and made clay flowers. As well as flowers, we picked some Blackberries, harvested a Courgette, chopped wood for a bug house and replanted an Oak tree sapling! 🌱 It’s been a wonderful week to end to July!

This week we experienced every season in one day - from hail, heavy rain and strong winds to beautiful sunshine! ☀️🌧️💨 The children loved exploring and experiencing all the different types of weather nature had to offer.

We have been busy painting birds, stick whittling, observing weather changes and discussing different seasons. The children have loved playing with friends and enjoying circle time together.

We have our fingers crossed that the sunshine makes a more permanent appearance soon ☀️

Happy Birthday Sir David Attenborough! To celebrate, the children spent the start of the morning exploring different animals’ habitats🌴🧊🌲🏜️. At circle time we sang “Happy Birthday” and looked at lots of different animals that reach 100 years old, just like David Attenborough! We then did some lovely painting of beetles and finished the day with a video of David Attenborough’s life, while we ate afternoon snack. A fun packed day to celebrate the birthday of a man, who cares and understands about the importance of taking care of planet Earth, just like all of us here at The Shepherds Hut😊🌍💕.

This morning we have been learning all about the amazing animals and nature documentaries he has shared with the world. To celebrate his special birthday, the children got creative making a muddy birthday cake 🧁🍰🌿

Lots of messy play, imagination, and conversations about caring for our planet - just the way Sir David would love 💚
