At Spring Nursery RAF Halton we encourage parents to send us "Parent observation".
Because to be effective in supporting children's development, parents, carers and the children themselves should be included in the information gathered during the Observation and Planning cycle, as learning and developing does not only happen when the child is in the setting.

Parents are able to contribute to their child's learning journey with wow moments and they are encouraged to ask the nursery for support in certain area's of development.
For more information about how we use our Famly app please visit: https://springchildcare.co.uk/our-childcare/parent-communications/

Last week Inventors made Muesli balls.
They independently cut up their own dates, mixed the muesli with a little golden syrup and put the ball on the tray to go into the fridge.
During the conversation they talked about how sticky the mixture was, who's parents enjoyed eating muesli for breakfast and looked to see what was in the muesli - "Apples, raisins, orange bits and cereal"

🌿🍂🍃Bit of a tidy up before or Open Day this Saturday

Photos from Spring Childcare Halton's post 22/07/2021

Our Inventors made some yummy fruit loaf cup cakes today.
The children helped with measuring, scooping, pouring, mixing.
This time we also showed them what happens when the mixture goes into the oven and how it looks when it comes out.
Our children aren't usually allowed in the kitchen but we briefed them of staying safe and we had an extra staff member in there so we had one on each side of the oven to ensure the children were completely safe. They absolutely loved seeing the entire process of how things are made, from being fresh to and looking paler to browning in the oven and looking different coming out. Its so important for them to be a part of the whole process.

Release of the Butterfly

Butterfly Release

🐛🦋

Photos from Spring Childcare Halton's post 12/07/2021

When one of our staff members was sadly posted to RAF Northold she kindly gifted us a Butterfly Kit.

The children helped and watched the caterpillars slowly latching themselves onto the lid of the pot provided and grow into their cocoon. Then one after one all 5 of them hatched into beautiful butterflies.

Today during Forest School Inventors let the Butterflies go free next to a particularly flowery FS area.

*Release video's to follow*

To tie this in with other areas of learning we also did some butterfly symmetry painting and read The Hungry Caterpillar and listened to the story of the Crunching Munching caterpillar.
In Forest School and in general conversation we talked about life cycles and how some animals look similar when they are born and how some look completely different.

Today Inventors baked bread rolls from scratch.
They learned about measures, mixing, rising time, portion size and they also had a discussion about healthy and unhealthy amounts of salt.
The language that was heard:
"soft, fluffy like a fluffy blanket"
"like a cloud, the flour and yeast"
Once the water went in we talked about absorption, where did the water go?
"…into the bread, in the clouds!"
When kneading the bread
".. sticky, like playdoh"
" oooh so gooey!"
"And it smells like bread and cupcakes, delicious!"

The skies over Spring Nursery RAF Halton were very busy today!
After this mornings Pumas' we also saw a fantastic Chinook fly over the setting.
There was even someone waving out of the door.

We are very lucky here at Spring nursery to see these fantastic Aircrafts.

07/07/2021

At RAF Halton the children often encounter new experiences daily, but today was extra special.
It is the 50th anniversary of the Puma Helicopters and to commemorate such an important date we had 9(!!) fly straight over the setting (and other RAF stations today)

The children were so excited and were standing at the top of the garden with a fantastic view of the Pumas. Including our babies.

Forest School
In Forest School yesterday, as you can see, we found lots of slugs, snails and worms. We remembered that if we moved a log to look at them we had to put it back after to keep them safe. We also did some ‘natural weaving’ looking for natural materials to put on our boards. We tried to find different textures and colours. There was a lot of team work and collaborative play to build our log dens, as well as making castles and pies in the mud pit. We hope that you enjoy hearing about our adventures and enjoy looking at the photos too!

Photos from Spring Childcare Halton's post 24/06/2021

Today it was time to clean some of our outdoor kitchen toys and what better way to clean it then washing up together.
We had some lovely language throughout.

"Madieke, look how shiny it looks now"
"We're doing the dishes"

They did a fantastic job.

“Then out rose … A TRULY MAGNIFICENT BROOM!
With seats for the witch and the cat and the dog, A nest for the bird and a shower for the frog.
“Yes!” cried the witch, and they all clambered on.
The witch tapped the broomstick and whoosh! they were gone.”
(DONALDSON, SCHEFFLER, 2002)

This week Navigators read "Room on a Broom" by Julia Donaldson so in Forest school we made broomsticks using a variety of natural materials.🐱🐸🐶✨

“The natural connections children make to formal learning through the use of open ended and naturalistic resources should be a motivation to all adults to ensure that these are freely available to young children both indoors and outdoors.”

One of our highly valued staff members and their crafty husbands have cut and donated some decking planks and pieces for our children to explore. Thank you so much C and A for these and for your time. 🤩

Duckling Update 14/4/21

The children have observed the ducklings up close and learned how to gently hold and stroke them, under very careful supervision. The ducklings seem to enjoy exploring a new space and were confident as long as they stuck together. They also seem to like anything red and pecked at the red parts of socks/shoes of the children. Fascinating stuff. 🦆🐣🐥.

Then the children drew their own interpretation of the ducklings, we think they did a fantastic job!

Duckling update 12/4/21

There are little ducklings, unfortunately the rest didn't make it out of their little shell. But this is all part of life and we are focused on these 3 beauties.
The children had a wonderful time watching them today.
Soon we will be able to teach them how to swim 🏊‍♂️🐥🦆

Duckling update 10/4/2021
2 healthy ducklings have now fully hatched and have been transferred to the play pan. We are waiting patiently for the rest who are showing signs of hatching.

Duckling update🦆🐣

One duckling is out of its egg, we expect another to make its way out by tomorrow.

Photos from Spring Childcare Halton's post 09/04/2021

This week something very "eggciting" happened at Spring Nursery RAF Halton.
We have had some lovely duck eggs delivered to hatch and care for at the setting.

Each agegroup will get a chance to watch, care for and learn all about baby ducklings, under careful supervision and guidance.

We have all the necessary equipment, risk assessments and instructions in place to ensure the animals and children are kept safe.

It will be an "eggxellent", educational few weeks.

We have been enjoying a beautiful sunny day today. It feels like Spring is in the air. 🐝🦋🐞

Welcome To Spring RAF Halton

Spring RAF Halton is a 52-place nursery set in the residential area of Halton, Buckinghamshire. The nursery is purpose built on ground level, offering ramps for prams or wheelchair access.

Our healthy snacks and home cooked meals are prepared daily on site by our chef who caters for all dietary requirements, allergies & weaning stages. We offer spaces for the local community, military and civilian and we aim to be as flexible as possible to suit all parents’ needs.

We have one big room divided into two separate spaces so that children can learn and develop at their own pace: Butterflies for the under 2s and Dragonflies for children 2-5 years. Both have access to an undercover paddock area so the children can play outside all year round. The Paddocks then connect to a large secure outdoor area, with rural views, where children are encouraged to explore, play and extend their learning.

Our staff are fantastic: they are dedicated, driven, highly qualified practitioners who support all children’s learning and development, especially our children with additional needs.
