The dressing up area has books about how we are all different and our cozy, baby care area has stories to read to our friends or the dolls. 📔📙📖📚

Inventors and Navigators created a wonderful process art display. The children were just asked to make a window display and worked together to make it into a tree, the grass, clouds and sky.
It was a lovely joined project that produced a beautiful piece of art.
On the 10th of August it was World Lion Day. 🦁
Explorers (0-2yrs) enjoyed creating a joined masterpiece exploring a variety of textures.

At Spring RAf Halton we enjoyed wonderful jubilee celebrations this week!!
All the decorations were handmade by the children.
The children explored a variety of activities and we had lots discussions about the queen.
The staff also enjoyed a nice relaxing tea party for their breaktime.
*permission gained from individual parents regarding photographs*
Yesterday in Forest School some of us made natural crowns using found natural materials.
We also started practicing with our fire striker which we will, moving forward, be using to start our fires for cooking. There was a lot of listening and concentration during this one to one activity, we also talked about keeping safe when using fires and reminded everyone about staying outside of the log circle until called. Using natural materials led to lots of language relating to size, colour and texture.🍃🌱🌿🌿🍃
Inventors also planted poppy seeds 🌺🌺🌺🌺
Navigators did some seed planting today- sunflowers🌻 and poppies🌺 that one of the children gave us when they left our nursery, and paper impregnated with seeds.... it’s a mystery as to what they are. 🤔

Happy Easter🐰
Explorer's have been busy this week with lots of Easter activities; they have had sensory themed egg hunts in sand and ice, made Easter cards and crafts and a Easter themed egg decorating tuff tray with different media to mark make with.
Happy Easter!
Inventors and Navigators have been very busy with lots of fun Easter activities thus week; they have made Easter biscuits, baked ginger cake, made their own rabbit ears, done Easter themed mark making and had a wonderful time in an Easter themed forest school session where they toasted marshmallows and had an egg hunt.

We would love to meet you!!
This afternoon we have been playing with the medical sets as one of our children has a broken arm.
We have been listening to heartbeats with the stethoscope “ I hear heartbeat” , “ I got poorly arm “ and using the thermometer to take temperatures “ you have temperature D, go home” . We have been bandaging each other’s arms and heads and exploring the other instruments.
Today in Forest School some of us did some whittling, we will be revisiting this regularly in our sessions to help build up fine motor skills and strength for our emergent writing. We also did some leaf rubbings using crayons, first we had to find some leaves that wouldn’t break up under the paper! There were also lots of examples of great team work to create dens and to build pretend camp fires. We could hear intense negotiations going on within various groups as they played discussing which sticks and logs to use and where to place the ‘fire’. Tree climbing was also popular today and with our binoculars we spotted some brave birds who came to say hello. We identified a Robin and a blue tit!
*permission for photo's obtained*
Today in Forest School we tried cooking some bread over our open fire. We revisited our fire safety rules, walking around the log circle, keeping our hands off and not going inside the circle unless we are called. Everybody had a turn, it got a bit smokey at times! We also made a shelter den as it started to rain, it was tricky to stop the cover blowing in the wind but we used sticks to thread through the eyelets on the tarpaulin. At the start of the session we practised our mindfulness by doing our breathing exercise and then listening to the sounds around us, we heard a bird, we thought it was our friendly robin.
🐦
This afternoon we ate our bread, it was…’nice, crunchy, orange juicy, like a French stick, tasty, tasty, like a pizza’. Sounds delicious!🍞🥖🧈
Have your say! Our Spring Parent Satisfaction Survey is now live and we kindly ask that if your child already attends our Spring Nursery, please fill it out for us at your earliest convenience. The survey takes around 5-10 minutes to complete and is crucial for us to be able to celebrate what we do well and work on any areas we are able to improve. Your feedback is invaluable to us.

FOREST SCHOOL
On Tuesday in Forest School we made some bird feeders using bird seed, mixed fruit and beef dripping. We mixed and scooped and filled some paper cups with our mixture. We will hang them up tomorrow after a night in the fridge! When we were not making the feeders we were digging, climbing and building a den which we then covered with a tarpaulin to make it even cosier! Some of us made some seats under the trees with some spare logs and then settled down to sit and watch out for some birds! We remembered to be quiet and our friendly Robin came to see us!🌳🌲🍃🌴🌿🐦🐦

'When children play in natural spaces, they’re far more likely to invent their own games than in more structured settings – a key factor in becoming self-directed and inventive adults later in life.' Richard Louv
A few weeks ago we had lots of rain at the setting.
This did not stop our children enjoying their time in the garden.
They all got suited and booted and had such a great time exploring the muddy puddles. 🌧☔️💧
Inventors have been busy with many activities relating to Chinese New year these past 2 weeks.
They looked at pictures about the festival and its origin.
Practiced chopstick skills with playdough
Painted tigers and made tiger masks.
Studied Chinese numbers and tried to copy them.
All the children remembered that red was a lucky colour and that it was the year of the tiger this year. 🐯🐯🐯🏮🎐
A few more photos of our "We're going on a bearhunt" story activities!
Navigators are currently reading the Bear hunt story every day and the children are becoming really familiar with the flow of the story and certain phrases.
To follow on from this the children enjoyed a sensory experience using a variety of materials for them to act out the story.
The children also watched the video on youtube with Michael Rosen, who wrote "We're going on a bearhunt"
(Watch here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0gyI6ykDwds)
Inventors had a wonderful time using their imagination to create snowmen, Christmas tree and cakes with a variety of Christmassy materials.
Navigators Reindeer Antlers (see previous post)
Navigators had so much fun listening to Christmas music and decorating pine branches with pipe cleaner and ribbon. They eventually used them as antlers on their heads so Navigators group leader Lis decided to make some antlers with them this morning with a variety of materials.
Navigators are currently all walking around the room with their own reindeer antlers (pictures to follow).
Its a lovely example of the way we sometimes plan for our children at Spring RAF Halton, we introduce something new (Pine branches), the children take the lead and we follow and support their interest. 🎄
On the 18th of November we took part in The Queen’s Green Canopy (QGC) which is a unique tree planting initiative created to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022 which invites people from across the United Kingdom to “Plant a Tree for the Jubilee”.
We invited Group Captain Dan Startup to come and help us plant a tree. He kindly agreed and together with the children planted a Beech tree and one of our own Hazel trees.

At Spring Nursery RAF Halton we encourage parents to send us "Parent observation".
Because to be effective in supporting children's development, parents, carers and the children themselves should be included in the information gathered during the Observation and Planning cycle, as learning and developing does not only happen when the child is in the setting.
Parents are able to contribute to their child's learning journey with wow moments and they are encouraged to ask the nursery for support in certain area's of development.

A lovely leaving gift for our setting from one of our wonderful parents.
Home grown herbs and plants.
Thank you so much! 🤩
Last week Inventors made Muesli balls.
They independently cut up their own dates, mixed the muesli with a little golden syrup and put the ball on the tray to go into the fridge.
During the conversation they talked about how sticky the mixture was, who's parents enjoyed eating muesli for breakfast and looked to see what was in the muesli - "Apples, raisins, orange bits and cereal"

🌿🍂🍃Bit of a tidy up before or Open Day this Saturday
Our Inventors made some yummy fruit loaf cup cakes today.
The children helped with measuring, scooping, pouring, mixing.
This time we also showed them what happens when the mixture goes into the oven and how it looks when it comes out.
Our children aren't usually allowed in the kitchen but we briefed them of staying safe and we had an extra staff member in there so we had one on each side of the oven to ensure the children were completely safe. They absolutely loved seeing the entire process of how things are made, from being fresh to and looking paler to browning in the oven and looking different coming out. Its so important for them to be a part of the whole process.

Butterfly Release
🐛🦋
When one of our staff members was sadly posted to RAF Northold she kindly gifted us a Butterfly Kit.
The children helped and watched the caterpillars slowly latching themselves onto the lid of the pot provided and grow into their cocoon. Then one after one all 5 of them hatched into beautiful butterflies.
Today during Forest School Inventors let the Butterflies go free next to a particularly flowery FS area.
*Release video's to follow*
To tie this in with other areas of learning we also did some butterfly symmetry painting and read The Hungry Caterpillar and listened to the story of the Crunching Munching caterpillar.
In Forest School and in general conversation we talked about life cycles and how some animals look similar when they are born and how some look completely different.
Today Inventors baked bread rolls from scratch.
They learned about measures, mixing, rising time, portion size and they also had a discussion about healthy and unhealthy amounts of salt.
The language that was heard:
"soft, fluffy like a fluffy blanket"
"like a cloud, the flour and yeast"
Once the water went in we talked about absorption, where did the water go?
"…into the bread, in the clouds!"
When kneading the bread
".. sticky, like playdoh"
" oooh so gooey!"
"And it smells like bread and cupcakes, delicious!"
The skies over Spring Nursery RAF Halton were very busy today!
After this mornings Pumas' we also saw a fantastic Chinook fly over the setting.
There was even someone waving out of the door.
We are very lucky here at Spring nursery to see these fantastic Aircrafts.
Spring RAF Halton is a 52-place nursery set in the residential area of Halton, Buckinghamshire. The nursery is purpose built on ground level, offering ramps for prams or wheelchair access.
Our healthy snacks and home cooked meals are prepared daily on site by our chef who caters for all dietary requirements, allergies & weaning stages. We offer spaces for the local community, military and civilian and we aim to be as flexible as possible to suit all parents’ needs.
We have one big room divided into two separate spaces so that children can learn and develop at their own pace: Butterflies for the under 2s and Dragonflies for children 2-5 years. Both have access to an undercover paddock area so the children can play outside all year round. The Paddocks then connect to a large secure outdoor area, with rural views, where children are encouraged to explore, play and extend their learning.
Our staff are fantastic: they are dedicated, driven, highly qualified practitioners who support all children’s learning and development, especially our children with additional needs.
