Little Acorns Kindergarten, Wendover

We took the time today to enjoy the warm September weather and utilise the amazing green spaces we have. We picked flowers, explored and then had some running races 🌿🌳

Today it is with great sadness that we heard the news that HM Queen Elizabeth has passed away.

We hadn’t had time to share this with having our Little Acorns back in the setting but we are honoured to have received this commemorative card in recent weeks in response to a letter and card our children sent to Her Majesty for her Platinum Jubilee.

We spent a lot of time over the last few terms talking to the children about the Queen and all the things she has achieved, inspired and encouraged and we will continue to remember her mighty reign of our country.

How much sand is needed for a sparkling new sand house??? A LOT! Super excited taking delivery this morning ready for our little explorers to arrive tomorrow!

Wishing all of our Little Acorns an amazing first day in Reception, we will be thinking of you all over the next few days. We are so very proud of each and every one of you.

Huge good luck wishes to Ben and Tracy from Stoke Mandeville Football Club. They are holding a Family Funday today to raise funds for the club they founded in 2018 to support young children in the area.

Ben and Tracy are huge LAK supporters and still attend every fundraising event despite their children moving onto big school.

If you have an hour or two free, I know they would love to see you The Bull Stoke Mandeville.

After months and months of phenomenal fundraising, our Sand Room dream is coming true!

Every year about this time we post the same thing…the term stops but we don’t! We are extremely proud that Little Acorns Kindergarten is an accredited pre-school with Millie's Trust continuing our Millie’s Mark award with 100% of staff being paediatric first aid trained.

You allow us to look after and teach your children so in return we offer you the knowledge that we are doing all we can to keep them safe, happy and well. During our course we took time to make sure everyone was familiar with the newly placed defibrillator and how to access it. We hope we never need to use it but we are all prepared if we do.

Aylesbury Cheerleading Academy will be holding 2 GIGGLES next week.

What is GIGGLES I hear you say?? GIGGLES sessions are our popular SEN/ASD friendly, Stay and Play sessions held at our Unit on Edison Road.

The three upcoming dates are as follows:

Friday 22nd July 2022
1:30pm-3:30pm

Sunday 24th July 2022
10:30am-12:30pm

GIGGLES is a session to make friends, socialise and have fun, while parents/carers can relax and chat, knowing their children are safe and can be seen at all times.
We will make the following adjustments to help make the session as accommodating and accessible for those with additional needs as possible:

✅ Reduced Lighting
✅ No Background Music
✅ Numbers limited to 15 families maximum
✅ Video link sent via email ahead of your session with a quick intro to the staff that will be working during the session and a brief tour of the building and facility for the purpose of familiarisation prior to your visit. (For anyone who has booked at least 24 hours in advance or more)

The weather put paid to our plans for a sports day earlier in the week but with so much energy we waited for some shade and a little cooler weather and the kids got to run their races! Well done Little Acorns!! 🏅

We had such a brilliant time last night at our Summer edition Travelling Trends Fundraising Fashion Shows!!! Our models were astounding and we are so grateful for their time and commitment. We made an amazing £279 as a result aswell as being able take home some bargains - thank you for coming and helping to support us. An additional big thank you to Elaine and Mary for producing such a great show. Diaries at the ready as we’ll be announcing our next fashion show date soon!

This is also a good time to say that our quiz night two weeks ago raised £606!! That’s a total of £885 raised over two events. We always say this but it’s so true, every penny or pound donated through an event goes straight back into Little Acorns. As a charity we are responsible for funding our own equipment, visitors and resources and so we are always looking for the most fun ways to do this. If anyone would like to put some ideas to the PTA or join to help us please do get in touch!

Our LAK fashion show is back! Ladies you are all welcome for a night of laughs, drinks and fashion bargains. Tickets just £5 and include a drink. Our lovely mums and staff are modelling once again and all money goes straight back to helping Little Acorns offer the best resources to their children. It may have been the hottest night of the year but we had another epic quiz night last night. Well done to our winning team!! We had such a fabulous celebration this afternoon to celebrate 70 years of her Majesty the Queen The Royal Family. Thank you to The Party Poppers for entertaining us before we had a lovely picnic outside. We were even visited by a special guest!!!! 👋🏻 Thank you to all our families for coming and helping us celebrate!

We are so excited about our Jubilee tea party today! Huge thank you to parents who have sent in some amazing ‘Royal’ cakes and biscuits for the children to enjoy. A very special thank you goes to Tesco Broadfields Community team who sent us a lovely box of treats! 🇬🇧👑

We love little creative minds and what they can achieve. This week we have been talking to children about different forms of art and taking inspiration from the wonderful modernist sculpter Barbara Hepworth Museum & Sculpture Garden. The children used their clay in their own individual ways to create something from their imagination. Each piece is as unique as the child who created it and we love them all.

Huge thanks to the amazing Sarah Greer Photography who came and gave our Little Acorns a mini photography masterclass today!

One budding Little Acorn photographer-of-the-future said at the end “but I want to learn more!” We are so lucky to have members of the community who can inspire and share their experiences with us. Thank you Sarah! 📸

We are still in awe that Alf ran for 9 hours yesterday all in aid of supporting us at Little Acorns.

We are amazed to say we raised £901!!!!!!!
EDIT : A wonderful donation of £99 has just come in, making our total an amazing £1000!!!!!!!!!!!!

As a charity who strive so hard to have the best resources and opportunities for our children this is just incredible.

We can also confirm the distance that Alf managed to cover during his run was a staggering 93.03KM!!!

In just 3 days Alf will be running outside LAK on a treadmill for a HUGE 9 hours. All the money that Alf raises goes straight back into Little Acorns and as a charity we are extremely grateful to Alf for taking on this challenge for us.

You can be in with a chance of winning a family ticket to Legoland worth up to £150, which has been kindly donated by our friends at Christopher Pallet Wendover, if you can guess the distance Alf will cover during this time in km (please guess to the nearest half metre).

Running (and running and running) for Little Acorns!

As a charity, Little Acorns relies on fundraising to ensure we can continually enhance the learning and development of our little acorns whilst providing them with the most amazing environment and opportunities possible.

On Thursday 7th April, one of our Little Acorns’ parents Alf, is going to run on a treadmill outside the setting from 8am until 5pm…that’s a whopping NINE hours!

Alf is an experienced distance runner and will be undertaking this challenge solo but we would love for you to come along and show him support whilst having a bit of fun at the same time.

Christopher Pallet Wendover have very kindly offered to sponsor this event and have donated the amazing prize of a family ticket to LEGOLAND, up to the value of £150, for the person who can correctly guess the distance Alf can cover over the duration of his run (£5 per entry).

Today was the turn of the carbon snake - we have renamed it carbon rock. By combining bicarbonate, icing sugar, sand and lighter fluid and then setting fire to it (adults only!) we got to watch from a distance as the carbon began to rise and make rock like structures!

Talk about all the seasons at once…sun yesterday, rain today and at LAK we had snow this afternoon!!

Our mini scientists today discovered that by combining bicarbonate of soda with hair conditioner you can have a go at building your own snowman!

We started the weeks experiments today by looking at the chemical reaction between lemons, baking soda and soap. And what a reaction you get…mini lemony volcanos!

Kings and Queens is our topic this week. So the children made their own cucumber sandwiches and we had a banquet - complete with medieval music! Look just how amazing these portraits of the Queen look, we’re super proud 👑

Today we celebrated all things books and we had a fabulous time doing so. We shared stories, we listened to each other and to some special visitors, we drew book covers and we learned that audio books can also tell us stories while we had a little relax. We love surrounding our children with books everyday & it’s wonderful to see their appreciation grow.
