Four horses killed in separate road collisions in six weeks

This is a very sad article. The roads are so dangerous for our horses. Our heart goes out to all who have had such a dreadful experience. Poor, poor horses.

Four horses killed in separate road collisions in six weeks Four horses have been killed on the roads in six weeks, in separate road collissions around the country, the British Horse Society has reported

We have had confirmation from BD that our Winter Regionals are indeed as expected cancelled. We are not yet sure if these will be rescheduled in any way and we will be awaiting further communications. All regional entries will be refunded in due course.

Here's to a legend that changed the sport and will forever be remembered as one of the very best. Rest in Peace, Totilas. ❤️

So glad that we were able to do the 2020 September Central Dressage Camp. I love doing these, its intense, but i get to learn so much and it really motivates me. Donald was such a good boy. Thank you to Andrew Gould for beasting me in the sitting trot and making me believe i can go bigger and to Paul Friday for brushing up my test riding skills. I WILL be practicing my center line halts a lot more now.

A super big thank you to Kim Moloney who managed to make it a really fun camp again even with Covid 19 and its was great to catch up with Teghan and Katrina! Not going to lie i was a little stiff walking into school today but it was sooooo worth it.

Camp at Wellington Riding EC will be one to remember. Despite Covid we pulled it off! Masks, anti-bac, 2 metre ruling - it's the new norm! The sun shone. Everyone was happy and worked hard over the weekend to improve. Thank you to all came along and supported us you were great. We so enjoyed working with you and can't thank you enough for the really super feedback. You guys are the best! See you soon. 😁

Firstly, thank you to all those that came forward to offer support and to those that wrote in to share their stories with the legal team about Elmtree. There is hope! Our great British legal system proved it when we won our case against Elmtree on the failed arena.

We had a 60 x 20 arena installed by Elmtree. It was evident from the get go the surface was not fit for purpose. It rode so deeply and our horses struggled to work. We could not ride in it and we could not run the clinics. The surface was deep and holding with pot holes up to 9" in places. One horse tripped, one rider fell and one horse pulled a shoe - all within a week!
Strong concerns were raised by us resulting in Bruce and George Clark inspecting the arena eleven times in the January. (one month after completion). They denied any short coming saying all new arenas rode deeply. They went on to say we were not maintaining it and it lacked water. That was not true as it was brand new, fully maintained and it was a wet winter. It was not fit for purpose and an obvious welfare issue.
A very frustrating process ensued and despite the production of several expert witness reports to include the British Team Vet, Team GB rider, a leading surface supplier and the World Champion Farrier they still denied any responsibility. We were left with no alternative other than the legal route. We want this review to give honest feedback in the hope it may save someone else going through the same nightmare. We have received many calls from other innocent parties who are going through the same ordeal with Elmtree. They will have you believe you are the guilty party when all along the arena is simply not fit for purpose. The arena ended up in landfill.
We won our case and were duly awarded £70,000 plus legals. Herewith (in part) is a cut and paste from the verdict - “.…My expert opinion of deep and uneven going in surfaces is inevitably the horse will suffer. In a very short time injury would be sustained to tendons, joints and muscles. In many cases this will result in lengthy rest periods made up of months and sometimes years, early retirement and or euthanasia brought about by unsoundness and the inability to undertake a useful career…”
If if were not for the kindness of Equestrian Surfaces we would have been without an arena altogether. They cleared up the mess that Elmtree left behind and got us back on the road with a beautiful arena that rides like a dream.
Special thanks to the most amazing and professional Chartered Surveyor, Robert Martell who was responsible for the full legal inspection report for the Adjudication highlighting numerous defects with the build and to Michael Levenstein - the brightest Barrister of them all. They were FANTASTIC. Thank you.
We've attached some photos of the defective surface that ended up in landfill.
So, the moral of the story is please do your research when using contractors for your arena. We wouldn't wish our experience on anyone else.

Buckingham Equine Vets

Coronavirus update – 24 March 2019

What care can we continue to provide?

Following the Prime Minister’s statement yesterday evening and in line with the guidance we have received from our governing bodies, Buckingham Equine Vets are now providing essential and emergency care only until such a time as these restrictions are lifted. This care will be provided 24/7.

What constitutes essential and emergency care?

Essential and emergency care means if your horse is sick and requires medication or diagnostics for a disease or condition.
It does not cover:
• Flu vaccinations
• Prescription checks
• Pre-purchase examinations (vettings)
• Routine dentistry*
• Poor performance or mild lameness examinations
*If your horse/pony is showing evidence of oral pain: dropping food (quidding), struggling to eat, swollen cheeks, facial swelling, nasal discharge or a swollen jaw, this falls outside routine dentistry and into the essential/emergency care directive.
We have suspended the worm egg count that forms part of our worming package until May.

If I require emergency or essential care for my horse/pony, what should I do?

Please call the clinic as normal and speak to a member of staff to arrange a visit.

I have an appointment already booked with you, what should I do?

If you have an appointment booked this week, you will shortly be receiving a telephone call to advise you further.

My horse/pony has ongoing health/dental issues, what should I do?

If your horse/pony has ongoing health or dental issues, please call the clinic to discuss with us the most appropriate way of managing these issues in the short term.
For repeat prescriptions please contact the practice as normal. Please allow 3-5 working days for these to be fulfilled as there are reduced veterinary medical deliveries across the nation.
I am self-isolating/classed as vulnerable. Can you still come and see my horse/pony in an emergency?
Yes, we should be able to do so provided either you or we can put suitable arrangements in place. If you are self-isolating or are in the vulnerable population, please tell a member of staff when calling the clinic so appropriate arrangements can be made.

We will now be requesting payment for all treatment (with the exception of insurance work) at the time of the visit. Our vets carry portable wireless card machines enabling social distancing during the transaction. We will not be accepting any cash payments at this time.

Going forwards

We will continue to monitor the advice received from the Government and our governing bodies and will let you know if anything material changes. In the meantime, this is a difficult time for us and we are very grateful for your ongoing support and patience.
