It’s been all about washing, pouring, cooking and looking after babies with our Explorers recently. Never happier than when they are getting lovely and wet and busy 💦🫧🧼
Calling all families looking for a lovely lace nursery. We are holding an open day on Saturday 15 October from 9am-12pm. Feel free to drop in or let us know that you would like to come by emailing [email protected]
Such a delight to see so many families for our superhero picnic at Wendover Woods last weekend. Thank you to everyone who joined us 🦸♀️🦹♀️
What a gorgeous graduation evening we had with our Investigators. Thank you so much to all the wonderful families who joined us and our super staff team! Have a wonderful weekend everyone 🎈🎈🎈
We were so delighted to hold our first parent talk yesterday evening and to have so many families attend. We listened to the super give an excellent talk on self regulation and behaviour management (I am biased as she is my sister)
If you are a parent and didn’t get a chance to listen then the 3 key messages to take away, are:
1. When your child is engaging in any type of behaviour ask yourself what is the need and can I meet it.
2. Ask yourself ‘am I calm?’and if I am not calm ‘can I get myself calm’
3. And the final thing is repair, repair, repair - if you have felt like you have lost your temper
She also highlighted a super Instagram account for advice on toddlers and parenting (just in case anyone wants to follow!)
Our Investigators had so much fun visiting church today. They had a chance to see the clothes and the chancel and the cups in the safe. Then they listened to the story of Daniel and the Lion. Such a fun and interesting afternoon.
What a scorching, hot day! A perfect day for water play. We hope you all have a wonderful weekend and that all those fathers out there get plenty of spoiling on Sunday! 🌸🌸🌸
Did you know that at The Children’s Room we are part of the Early Year’s Nutrition Partnership? That means that we carefully plan all our menus to deliver the best nutritional value to all our children.
We also create lots of learning opportunities for our children to prepare and play with food so that they can learn about healthy eating through play.
Oo argh! Pirate day at nursery - too much excitement. Treasure hunts, walking the plank, face painting and pirate songs. Perfect way to spend a Thursday 🏴☠️🏴☠️🏴☠️
So delighted with our BEAUTIFUL new knitted doll’s clothes from a lovely kind nursery granny! Our children can’t wait to use them 👶
Happy Jubilee Weekend everyone!! X
We were very honoured to have special visitor to nursery today. We were selected for a visit by HMCI Amanda Spielman who came to see the fantastic work our super staff team do to support children in our care to achieve their greatest potential. All our children were wonderful and were completely absorbed by the staff they were with. Well done everyone 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thank you so much to all our super families and staff for supporting our Comic Relief cake sale. We hope you all enjoyed the delicious sweet treats and went home with some brilliant red noses 😍🥰😍

Hooray for the blue sky! We are so happy to see these cold, crisp days arrive which give us even more chance to play and explore outdoors. This week is dinosaur week for our Investigators and here are a couple of them giving their dinosaurs a lovely wash. 🦖🦕🛁
And our Makaton word for the week from the lovely Carolyn - book - of course. 📚
Thank you so much to everyone who joined us for World Book Day. It was a complete JOY to have families back through our doors for milk and cookies and story time We LOVED seeing everyones costumes. Check out this fab Gruffalo and Mouse duo ☺️ and Cruella with her Dalmatian. It was also a great chance to launch our new lending library where we will be putting new stories every month. It is in reception so please do pop in if you want to borrow a book!
Although today has been all about pancakes it has also been our Team Treat day and this little chap couldn’t look more adorable holding all the bunches of daffodils for our lovely staff team to thank them for all their hard work. So happy spring is on its way! Hooray 🌼🌼🌼🌼
This week we had to give it to the lovely to teach us all how to sign Makaton for Daddy. Hope you are finding these handy 😊😊😊
Turning a treasure basket in to a village with a house and trees and a sponge bed. This little super star spent at last an hour today constructing different villages from all the lovely things she could find in the treasure basket. 🏠
Our weekly Makaton lesson continues this week from the lovely Mariella in Explorers 😍this week Makaton for Mummy 👩👦
We are loving this masterpiece of blocks and logs and bears from one of our super Investigators. As a nursery we are doing more and more to expand our loose parts play and create open ended learning opportunities for all our youngsters where they get to problem solve and experiment and use their imagination. 🪵🧸👏🏻
We have had such a glorious morning at nursery.
Super Stuart came to do sports skills with us and our little gang loved it! There was lots of running and freezing and shaking like jelly and then they all got to have a go at archery.
On the way back to nursery we started a group conversation about the shapes we could spot. Diamonds in the windows, so many rectangles in doors and bricks and some lovely triangle rooves as well. We are so happy to be able to get out and about again and we couldn’t have got luckier with the lovely cold and crisp morning 🏹🌱🌞
You guessed it folks. It’s time for our weekly word in Makaton. Makaton for ‘thank you’ as demonstrated by the lovely Kirsty.
Nifty trick for remembering Makaton for please and thank you - it is the same hand gesture down from the chin but for please it is ‘please to the knees’ and thank you you can remember as ‘ta to the bra’ Not the politest memory trick but sticks in the mind. 🙈
Wild life….our lovely little people have been having so much fun with their animals. We love the way this small world play leads to such sweet interactions. ‘Can my giraffe come and eat some tea with you darling?’ I overheard one little super star say to another this morning 😍
Did you know it’s national story telling week? In honour of this grand occasion and just to generally celebrate the brilliance of stories we thought we would share 5 of our favourites…
1. Hairy Maclary from Donaldson’s Dairy - a brilliant book written in rhyme (in fact there are 10 in the series 🐶)
2. The Tiger who Came to Tea - a classic which ends up with sausage and chips in a cafe with your mum and dad - who wouldn’t want a happy ending like that 🐯
3. The Jolly Postman - it is so much fun pulling all the letters out of their envelopes 📮
4. Winnie the Witch - and basically everything by the fantastic Julia Donaldson 🧙♀️
5. Tyrannosaurus Drip - which also rhymes and makes all our dinosaur loving little people (you know who you are) particularly happy 🦖
We are also very happy to say that we have been reconnecting with the local library who are now ready to re-welcome us for library visits. They also have a brilliant schedule of events for local families if you wanted to visit including:
8th February at 10am. Well Being Family Yoga with Sabina Dye – book by email [email protected]
10th February at 1pm. Dancing in the library to raise awareness of Children’s Mental Health with Dave Coombes. No dancing experience needed, just come along and wiggle to the music.
12th February at 10:30 am. Arty Party – come along and be creative! Adults and children welcome. Please book through the library in person or via out email. [email protected]
We have started doing lots of makaton at nursery to help our lovely little people with their communication. Makaton is a brilliant way to support children’s speech and language as they learn to talk. We thought everyone might enjoy learning one makaton sign a week. Thank you for being our super first signer 😍
Happy Chinese New Year Everyone! 🐅🐅🐅 We have been practising our fine motor skills with chopsticks, using bubbles to make blossom trees, snipping with scissors and mixing colours to make Chinese lanterns and learning about the year of the tiger and Chinese Nee Year traditions at story time. 🏮🏮🏮
Our Investigators have been colour mixing. Colours are everywhere and it is a wonderful experience for children to see how colours mix and form other colours. It also provide children opportunities to interact and exchange ideas.
A quick post before the weekend. Our Discoverers have been diving into this colourful dinosaur rainbow play this week. Lots of textures and works to explore.
Have a wonderful weekend everyone 🌈🦖🦕🌈
