There's a great deal of focus on seeking 'happiness' and I think we all would prefer to be 'happy' over sadness, fear and pain. Living however, is peppered with moments that are less than 'happy' experiences, which can easily distract us and skew our perspectives of the moment and what we decide we can or cannot do. I'm listening to 'Think Again' by Adam Grant an organisational development psychologist. He mentioned sharing this video clip in class ... how will you think about it?
Highlights from organised and hosted by Ufi VocTech Trust
An amazing week sharing ideas and showcasing supported projects.
Very grateful and thankful to the Ufi team for helping me to realise my 'Spotless' digital learning idea, helping to integrate hygiene and IPC knowledge, whilst developing vocational skills for all those who clean in care homes, hospitals and other healthcare settings.
Ufi: Week of VocTech - Highlights Week of VocTech was a week-long online celebration of the very best in vocational in technology. Live webinars, pre-recorded videos, and podcasts made up the...
To prevent something you have to prepare to prevent, which relies on raising your awareness of situations and actions around events.
Infections and outbreaks have been with us for centuries. There's only so much you can learn in a class room, most of life is learning by doing.
Spotless is my contribution to a novel way of learning two subjects:
1) Hygiene practices
2) Infection Prevention and Control principles
in a connected and contextualised way with the added advantage of being able to assess and further analyse the impact of the learning.
Thank you to all who have helped to realise this vision and special thanks Ufi VocTech Trust for all your support 😁

Covid19 has really tested the world and the people living and working in it.
Some gaps in knowledge, awareness and practices have been brought to the fore.
It's bought the best out in some people and the worst in others.
But life in the microbiological world still goes on regardless.
The attached graph is about invasive Group A Staphyloccocus (iGAS) another human pathogen that left unchecked can cause death.
I like the author of the tweet wonder how much of the decrease is related to improvement in IPC processes and practices.
Derren Ready on Twitter “Fascinating to see the dramatic downturn in iGAS numbers this season, particularly post introduction of the COVID-19 lockdown - would be super to understand the impact of each the different COVID-19 control measures on this infection. https://t.co/GYOydxNCrM”
"There is no right or wrong, there is what works for you." I say this a great deal when coaching however, what works for you may not work for others which ultimately may turn round to bite you in the ass.
There is a tremendous amount of debate about whether everyone should wear masks in public. In the main this is driven by fear of catching the virus and being aware that anyone could be a potential carrier. The other driver is a sense of fear, panic and uncertainty about jobs, business and the economy...the desire to get back to some sort of 'normality' which in truth will never be the same.
By wearing PPE with limited understanding of the practicalities and main purpose it is easy to cause a bigger problem. This link gives you some insight into poor practices I am seeing in public right now.
By wearing a mask without all the additional training in how to put it on, when to wear it, how to take it off, where to dispose of it and what to do straight after, you potentially increase your chances of getting an infection you didn't have before. That also means you might end up in one of our over stretched hospitals, adding to their already exhausted staff, so valiantly trying to provide care for everyone else. Once in that environment you have an even greater risk of exposure.
For all their seeming simplicity masks are specialist items and only one part of the solution. You owe it to yourself and others to hold off on wearing these until the Chief Medical Officer for the country gives the go ahead, at which point pay attention to proper use.

An informed and interesting podcast regarding the novel Coronovirus outbreak.
I agree that being prepared for any outbreak is key to rapid containment and management.
Our system for alerting a potential outbreak, would be better if we graded the risk potential as we grade other types of catastrophic risks.

Off the flight from Oz and up to Leiceister to attend the IDSc for a day.

Lots of trade exhibitors supporting the conference. Olympus had the best quirky gift a slightly jet lagged me required....properly made cappuccino with a picture of me crafted into the froth...well cool 😉
Had an awesome week in Melbourne Australia speaking at a dinner event and an all day conference, organised by Scientific Research Advisory Council Australia (SRACA) Victoria region.
Both talks were interactive requiring audience participation which seemed to go down really well in the main.
I had great fun, learned a lot and the audiences seemed to agree too.
Looking forward to the next international speaking event.....
Had a great evening connecting with past year Ufi funded projects at the Ufi charitable trust Showcase held in London.
Great to meet others in the same learning space 😁

We share and talk a great deal about neuroscience. How we build habits, break habits, mental health, motivation and much more.
What I love is that I'm talking to a young mind, who is at the transformation phase of their life journey and already he is so concious and aware of who he is.
He shared this link with me of an interview done with Joe Rogan (stand up comedian and world mixed martial artist) and English Neuroscientist, Professor Matthew Walker who recently published 'Why we sleep'.
As a women in business having grown up around the conditions, 'you do whatever it takes to get work done, even if that means sleep less'. There came a point where both my body and mind said 'enough' and physically I began exhibiting many of the symptoms Professor Walker shares in this interview.
If you value work/life balance, health and continuous improvement, these insights may prove useful.
Enjoy and Thank You for sharing 😊

I've just spent the last 2 days attending the Care Managers Network meetings in Exeter and Torbay. These are quarterly meetings funded by local council and some business sponsors, helping care home providers in the Devon and Torbay locality get access, education and signpost for funding workforce development.
There is a real desire to build community spirit and recognition that the biggest challenge for 2019 in the care market is staff attraction and retention.
In my world this is called 'Staff Engagement'. There was a great deal of talk about 'values based recruiting' and I wondered what the people at the grass roots understood about 'values' and whether they knew that an individual and group 'values' could be measured and the power that knowledge provides for continuous development and improvement.
'Values' are up right now. Leaders are recognising 'people awareness' is essential for effective and productive organisations.
Values are energetic drivers of behaviours, they can be measured and what can be measured can be managed.
