The Trustees of the William Cray Foundation invite residents of the Parish of Compton Bishop to apply for grants to help them further their education.

Grant applications can be made by anyone of any age as long as you live in the Parish of Compton Bishop. Grant monies can be used to support a wide range of educational needs from academic study to vocational training.

Applications close on 31 October 2025.

The application process is a simple one page online form and takes just a few minutes to complete.

If so, why not apply for an educational grant from the William Cray Foundation?

Each year we support Parish residents through grants to help with costs associated with learning and skill building. This could be towards the cost of books, equipment, tuition or exam fees - anything really that would help towards your educational needs.

The William Cray Foundation is a charity that was set up in 1728 to help fund education for the children of Compton Bishop Parish. Over time, our purpose has changed somewhat and now we support residents of the parish through grants for all sorts of educational endeavours.

The application process is really easy - just complete and submit an online form using the link below.

The closing date is 31st October and you will hear from us around the end of November or early December as to whether you have been successful, with grant awards paid before the end of the year.

In 2023 the William Cray Foundation made grant awards totalling £1,600 to the ten residents of Compton Bishop Parish who applied.

The grant funds were put to good use to support educational needs ranging from essential equipment for vocational courses through to IT equipment and course books.

The Trustees will be opening the application process for 2024 shortly.

Grant cheques are being distributed this week so watch your letter box if you applied !

Thank you to all those that applied for grants this year. The foundation had 15 applications from 13 individuals this year.

The trustees have met and agreed the grant awards for 2021 and will be despatching cheques to successful applicants to arrive within the next couple of weeks.

In 2020, William Cray Foundation awarded 15 grants to young people in Compton Bishop Parish. These grants were awarded to support a range of learning activities; from art supplies, music lessons and books to help towards lap tops.
