Avoch Primary Parent Council

Welcome to the Avoch Primary Parent Council page. This page is for Parent Council updates, meetings and events.

Operating as usual

11/09/2021

The Parent Council runs a weekly lottery to raise funds and give people a chance to win guaranteed cash prizes including the national jackpot of £25,000.

It's easy to join, can be cancelled at any time, and is open to anyone over the age of 16.

For every £1 ticket bought, we receive 40p and 36p goes towards the weekly prize, won by someone in our school lottery.

Over the past year we’ve raised £1,290 for our parent council funds and given out over £1100 in cash prizes.

To take part visit:
https://www.yourschoollottery.co.uk/

It’s so easy to play. Pick 6 numbers between 0-9. Pay £1 for each set of numbers, then sit back and relax.

The weekly draw is every Saturday at 8pm. You can check your own numbers but you'll be notified if you're the lucky winner and the money will be sent directly to you.

Money raised for our funds are used to support the school in a variety of ways - through new playground and sports equipment, school trips, improvements to the school grounds and gardens, our planned poly tunnel growing space and outdoor learning area and many other initiatives. These funds will be much appreciated when so many of our usual events have been cancelled.

Please spread the word - the more who take part, the more money we raise and the bigger the prize fund!

Good luck!

[09/02/21]   Breakfast and After School Clubs: We know that many parents/carers are concerned about the fact that these clubs will not be able to open on Monday 6th Sept as planned.

At both our committee meetings at the end of last year we discussed the challenges that the Highland Council were having with staffing these clubs; the difficulties our school faced in trying to secure temporary cover through the supply list and how hard our school was working to keep the clubs open. We really appreciate all the continuing efforts that our school are making to get these clubs going again.

It would be really helpful if parents/carers who are affected could email the Parent Council with their experiences. This way we can bring all the evidence together to take to representatives at the Highland Council to show the impact the closure of these clubs is having on families and ask questions about the recruitment process and challenges.

If you are willing to share your experience, please email us at [email protected]com. (We will keep all personal details anonymous and will not attach personal details or identifying information to what we put together). Thank you for any help.

Please come along to our first committee meeting of the year at 7-9pm, Monday 6th September, held via Google Meet.

Coming to our meetings is a great way to find out more about our lovely school, meet other parents/carers and meet some of the staff too. We always have a school report by the Head Teacher (or Depute) with a chance to ask questions and, depending on what's on the agenda, different staff may join or pop into our meetings too. This will be our first meeting with our new Head, Mrs Lynsey Third and so we are especially looking forward to welcoming her.

You can find the minutes of our last meeting and the link to join below! We look forward to seeing you there!

[08/16/21]   Thank you for everything Mrs Sim and we wish you all the best for your retirement!

And a very warm welcome to our new Head Teacher, Mrs Third!

It’s a sorting out donations kind of afternoon! If you have a uniform shortfall for next week, please get in touch, as we might have what you need 😊

[07/23/21]   Lots of uniform available over at our Unicycle service! Thanks Carrie Mudge!

08/07/2021

Get stocked up on uniform for next year! Check out what’s in stock or get in touch over at our Unicycle page 👇

We have had a lot of fresh ‘likes’ recently - hello and welcome to everybody new to the page! 👋

Uniform recycling is becoming increasingly popular, and we have expanded the service to offer outdoor clothing too. Over the course of the last school year, we have given out 463 items of clothing, which we are absolutely delighted over!

For those of you who haven’t used this service before, it is really simple.

1️⃣ It is totally free and open to everybody

2️⃣ People donate outgrown items

3️⃣ Donations laundered and quality checked

4️⃣ Need uniform? Get in touch!

5️⃣ Requests in stock can be collected anytime

6️⃣ Delivery can also be arranged if necessary

(Stock is always variable, as it depends upon donations received)

End of the year!

Mrs Sim was delighted with the gifts and message book from all the parents/carers and pupils which we presented to her today - her last day as Head Teacher of our school! She was presented with vouchers for Munros Garden Centre and Eden Court, a beautiful hand crafted depiction of Avoch Primary, lovely flowers, fizz and chocolates, a leaver's hoodie and a message book with all your personal messages.

Thanks for everything you have done for our school over the past 9 years Mrs Sim and we wish you a very happy retirement!

Have a good summer holidays everyone and good luck especially to all the P7s moving onto High School!

Keep on growing!

[06/24/21]   Please find the minutes of our latest Parent Council Committee Meeting in the link below.

We discussed our concerns about our increasing school roll, capacity issues and infrastructure concerns. The meeting was attended by two of our elected members and representatives from our Community Councils and we are working hard to take these concerns forward with them. Watch this space or get in touch to lend your support.

NEW SENSORY GARDEN! Your ideas and your help!

We are excited to announce that we have received funding to start developing our new sensory garden. A sensory garden is a lovely place to be outdoors – they have things for us to look at, touch, hear, smell and taste. The sensory garden will go at the bottom of the infant grass in the fenced off area and will be available for all pupils to use.

We need your IDEAS! We have an initial design for the garden and have been busy gathering children's ideas too. Now it's time to hear from you about any features you would like to see in the garden! Please share your ideas by commenting below, messaging us or sending us an email ([email protected])

We also need your HELP! We will be developing our sensory garden together with children at the school but require volunteers to make this possible. Do you have energy and enthusiasm? Do you enjoy spending time outside? Perhaps you have a skill or a trade that would be useful?

PLEASE get in touch to be added to our volunteer what's app group which we will use to co-ordinate activities later in the summer and at the start of next term!

Thanks to all the children for their ideas, to all the parents and staff who have helped develop the initial design, gather children's input and secure funding; to our Janitor, Muriel for her work to clear the space; Morgan Sindall Ltd for their offer to help with groundworks and to the Avoch Men's Shed for their advice and for offering support to help develop the garden with the children. Let's get rolling!!!

This Green Health activity was made possible with funding from Highland and Cairngorms LEADER LAGs (The European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development: Europe investing in rural areas) and was initiated by The Highland Green Health Partnership which aims to encourage more of us to make use of our local green and blue spaces.
