Our little explorers had a fantastic time celebrating Pirate Week, digging for hidden treasure, creating colourful pirate parrots, and designing their very own pirate ships.

Alongside our pirate adventures, the children enjoyed taking part in a letter hunt, exploring a sensory digger tray, and having lots of fun outdoors making giant bubbles in the garden.

It has been a week full of imagination, creativity, sensory exploration, and learning through play. We can't wait to see what exciting adventures next week brings! ๐Ÿ’š

This morning, our children had a wonderful time exploring our vegetable patch, helping to carefully pull up fresh carrots and beetroot. As they discovered each vegetable, they excitedly compared their sizes, using words like "big" and "little" to describe what they found. ๐Ÿฅ•

After harvesting, the children proudly carried their vegetables to the kitchen, ready for them to be cooked for tea. They also enjoyed picking juicy red tomatoes straight from the vine and, of course, tasting them too! ๐Ÿ…

Later in the day, we cooked our freshly picked vegetables and the children had the opportunity to try what they had grown themselves. Experiences like these help children develop a positive relationship with healthy food while learning where it comes from through hands-on exploration.

This week at Appletree, we've been making the most of the wonderful weather with plenty of fun outdoors! โ˜€๏ธ๐ŸŒฟ

The children have enjoyed exploring the garden, working together to complete puzzles, building their own jungle-themed houses, and getting stuck into a variety of sensory trays that encouraged creativity and imaginative play.

There was also lots of water play to help us stay cool, with the children having great fun using brushes and water to 'paint' the fence, watching their artwork magically disappear as it dried!

It's been another fantastic week full of exploration, teamwork, and learning through play. ๐Ÿ’š

As temperatures rise again today, we have taken note that for our region there is an Amber warning for heat. The temperatures are set to climb to mid 30โ€™s and we are expecting high humidity levels.

We are, as always, trying to keep the rooms as cool as possible and children comfortable, but this can be challenging in such conditions. We will have water available at all times and will minimise physical activity.

Please do ensure your child comes into nursery with suncream already applied and spare to reapply. Please do also bring an empty named water bottle for your child

Our little explorers have been on some wonderful sensory adventures this week! From a jungle safari to an ocean exploration, the children have been learning through hands-on play, creativity, and discovery.

We explored a variety of jungle animals and the sounds they make, using colourful transparent blocks to create vibrant animal silhouettes. The children also got creative making lion's manes, dabbing orange and brown paint with cotton wool held in pegs to support their developing fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination, while a lion figurine inspired curiosity and early animal recognition.

Our sensory activities continued as the children investigated different textures, colours, and marks through touch, helping to build language as we described how each surface felt together.

The children also created their very own jungle habitat by collecting leaves, sticks, and soil from the garden before adding jungle animals to their tray. We enjoyed talking about different habitats and encouraging imaginative play as they explored their creations.

To finish the week, we swapped the jungle for the seaside with an ocean-themed sensory tray filled with sand, shells, and sea creatures, giving the children another opportunity to explore different textures and spark conversations about life under the sea.

Our Week of Growing, Playing and Exploring!

We dug out the potatoes we planted with Gardener Ian! The children loved breaking off the shoots, sorting through the muck and discovering the potatoes theyโ€™ve been carefully watering over the past weeks. ๐Ÿฅ” Theyโ€™re very excited to turn them into a delicious potato salad for our lovely graduation celebration this week.

๐ŸŽพ Itโ€™s also been Sports Week, so the children have had great fun with the parachute, obstacle courses and even made some adorable tennis biscuits to celebrate Wimbledon. Alongside all the action, we enjoyed colour matching ๐ŸŽจ, building robots ๐Ÿค– and plenty of outdoor play โ˜€๏ธ.

A busy, joyful week all round.

The children shone with confidence and joy, and it was truly emotional watching how much theyโ€™ve grown.
