Heads of School

In each Year 5/6 class, children were asked to put themselves forward for the role of Head of School. Those who did had to speak to their class about why they were the perfect candidate and suggest what they would like to achieve if appointed. Each class then completed a secret ballot in which every child voted for who they thought was best suited to fulfil the role. We are delighted to announce our three new Heads of School and we are certain they are ready to take on this very important role. Congratulations!

Greater Manchester (GM) 10 Tips for Talking 23/09/2021

Greater Manchester (GM) 10 Tips for Talking

Have you heard about the launch of "GM 10 tips for talking" on the week commencing 27th September 2021?

Greater Manchester has developed ten key messages for early language development, which highlight the simple things that parents and carers can do to develop children’s speech, language and communication skills from before birth through to starting school.

A leaflet, poster, individual tips and a series of videos have been produced to illustrate each ‘tip for talking’. There is also a series of 10 tips materials translated into some of the additional languages spoken by our Greater Manchester communities.

All of the resources can be downloaded via WeTransfer (https://gmca.wetransfer.com/downloads/01c9114fee47c8e29fbfaa2be477a69120210914091203/59a801979ae7daaaedb0e2a544f3e21c20210914091203/05322d) but they can all also be found on the GM10 website –

[07/22/21]   A letter from the Headteacher:
Dear Children, Parents and Staff,
Who would have thought this time last year that we would have had the academic year that we have? I cannot lie, it has been tough for everyone- families on edge having to trust school decisions, staff having to learn new skills to reach the children at home and I know I have lived with the dreaded ‘ping’ of an email or dojo message stating we have had a positive case, hoping that everyone remains well and delivering the news of isolation to our families and staff.
Those who have grown to know me over the years will know that I speak straight from the heart, as difficult as it has been I always try to look for the good and it is quite clearly everywhere at St George’s!
Firstly, I would like to thank the staff for being so flexible and dynamic, with their approaches to online learning, going above and beyond, constantly following new risk assessment guidance…all scrutiny of a new kind!
Secondly, I’d like to thank the children. Who knew they could be so resilient? Embracing changes and facing everything that has been thrown their way with a newfound determination to succeed.
Finally, I would like to thank you. The families and carers of the children you have entrusted into our care. Thank you for having the faith in me to be able to make the decisions that keep your children safe, thank you for allowing us all to have the privilege of teaching your children on a daily basis, not questioning the difficult decisions we have had to make but supporting us into what has been ‘the unknown’ for the last eighteen months.
Now is the time to enjoy quality time with your families. I will be in touch with any guidance changes towards the end of the holidays and may I ask that we also allow our staff to re- energise and enjoy their family time too.
We couldn’t have made it through this rocky road without you and I truly believe that the school community at St George’s is special and unique in every way. That’s down to each and every one of you.
I am proud to wake up every morning and say that I am the Headteacher at such a special place.
Take care and stay safe
Mrs Boardman 🌈

Over the past few days, our KS2 children have been lucky enough to have a visit from a professional musician from the Halle Orchestra. They have each looked at a different key instrument from the orchestra and had a go at composing a piece of music as a group. They have had a wonderful time! Each KS1 class will be receiving a visit next week too.

[05/20/21]   Today we have received new guidance from Wigan Local Authority about Covid PCR Testing...
We have agreed as part of our response to support in regards to Variants of Concern, we now ‘recommend that you advise close contacts of any confirmed case to take a PCR test. This is because it has recently been agreed that all positive PCR tests undertaken in Greater Manchester will have genomic sequencing carried out (as opposed to sampling). Therefore, advising close contacts to carry out a PCR tests could potentially speed up the genomic sequencing process and result in a slightly earlier identification of a VoC.'
Should any parents need any advice on this then please don't hesitate to get in touch.

[05/19/21]   Liverpool Crimewatch have reported that Whatsapp updated their site last night and everyone’s account has now been set so people you don’t know can add you to their groups. This could be scammers / loan sharks or inappropriate groups for children etc.

To rectify this you need to go to your WhatsApp;
Select settings:
Account:
Privacy:
Then alter your groups etc back to MY CONTACTS only.

It just saves people you or your child don’t know adding you to their groups.
