Ridgeway Secondary School

This page is designed to keep you up to date with what is happening in our school so you get information straight from the source. Ridgeway Academy is situated in Astwood Bank, Redditch, Worcestershire.

There are currently over 450 pupils on roll from the ages of 9-13 (yr5-yr8). From September 2016 we will be becoming a secondary school catering for up to 600 11-16 year olds. The school serves Astwood Bank and surrounding areas of Redditch. We work closely with Astwood Bank First School, Feckenham First School and Crabbs Cross Academy although we tend to take pupils from a number of First Schools

As we have seen in the news there are further easing of restrictions being introduced today. Part of this is that face coverings will no longer be required for students in classrooms or communal areas, in the school.

Although face coverings are also no longer be required to be worn for staff in classrooms, It continues to be recommended that face coverings should be worn by staff and visitors in situations outside of classrooms where social distancing is not possible (for example, when moving around in corridors and communal areas). Our staff have also been informed that should they choose they are permitted to wear face coverings in classrooms. As I am sure you can appreciate many of our staff have not yet been vaccinated and this is just an additional measure to support the staff who have been working tirelessly throughout this pandemic.

The reintroduction of face coverings for students and/or staff may be advised for a temporary period in response to particular localised outbreaks, including variants of concern.

I would like to thank you again for your continued support throughout this period and should you have any questions or concerns please contact us.

Students will be being given their next batch of home testing kits in the next few days.

To help ensure the safety of all students, staff, families and the country, it's important that students take part in twice weekly rapid COVID-19 testing, reporting their results both to the NHS and the school.

Thank you to everyone who has been testing so far. #StaySafe

On behalf of all of the staff and students at Ridgeway we are saddened today with the announcement of the death of HRH The Duke of Edinburgh. As an accredited D of E Award scheme school, we can see first hand the hard work and dedication that Prince Phillip invested in young people and the belief he had in them, as we do.

As a mark of respect, we have lowered the flag to half-mast at school today.

It’s Good Friday so we wanted to share some Good news with you.

We were blown away by the kindness shown by so many of our students and staff to each other, their families, their friends and local community during the ‘Be Kind Challenge’

We know kindness happens all the time but it does not always get acknowledged, so we thank you for sharing your kindness stories with us and we wanted to share some with you.

We hope this makes you smile just like it did to us 😀 🌈

It’s been a brilliant week as we have been having lots of meeting with our year 9 students to discuss options.

It’s been important to do those final checks, tweaks and talk things through with you all as you prepare for your next chapter in your education.

We have been so impressed with the maturity you have all shown but we expected nothing less from such a great year group!

Our Story

At Ridgeway Academy we pride ourselves on providing opportunities for our young people to excel both in and outside of the classroom. Ensuring that our students are ‘the best that they can be’ each and every day is our priority.

Ridgeway Academy is a small, rural school located on an attractive green field site in Astwood Bank on the Outskirts of Redditch, Worcestershire. The school is purpose-built for secondary education with specialist and general classroom accommodation. In December 2012 the school became a new academy and since then we have been using our new freedoms to build on the school’s success in order to provide all our pupils with a first-class education. From September 2016 Ridgeway Academy will provide 600 pupils.

We are extremely proud of our students’ achievements and the excellent relationships that we have with our parents and carers. We see our school as a family and believe that each young person in our care is an individual. Our school is a place where everyone cares about our young people’s dreams and aspirations and where, with dedicated effort and practise, everyone can succeed.
