🌟 A lovely start to our new school year! 🌟

It has been so lovely to welcome all of our children back to school over the past two days. 💚

We came together for our first Collective Worship, where we shared our thanks for the summer and reflected on the experiences, both big and small, that we can be grateful for. We also talked about our goals for the year ahead and how, as our Aston family, we will work together to make it a happy and successful one.

As I have visited classrooms over the last couple of days, it has been wonderful to see children settled, engaged and making such a fantastic start to their learning. I am incredibly proud of how well they have returned to school.

I hope these first few days have helped to ease any worries or nerves that children may have had about coming back and that they are now feeling happy and positive about the year ahead.

I hope all of our children and families have a lovely, restful weekend. We look forward to welcoming everyone back on Monday for our first full week of the new school year! 🌟

🌊 Important Open Water Safety Message for Families 🌊

As part of our contextual safeguarding responsibilities, and given our proximity to Rotherham Valley Country Park and Ulley Reservoir, we take our duty to educate children about the dangers of open water very seriously.

Throughout the year, we incorporate important water safety messages into our PSHE curriculum and assemblies.

Following the tragic and widely reported loss of lives in open water incidents across the country during the recent May half-term holiday, we feel it is important to revisit these messages with all pupils once again.

Over the coming weeks, staff will be reinforcing key water safety guidance in school. Please find attached a poster outlining the important messages we will be sharing with children. We would be grateful if you could take a few moments to discuss these points at home and help reinforce the advice.

Working together, we can help ensure our children understand the risks associated with open water and know how to keep themselves and others safe.

Please see our exciting new school logo information attached. This sharing of information coincides with the launch of our Pride of Yorkshire Sculpture release next month.

The school council have worked incredibly hard on this design, I am proud of all of their contributions and the way they have represented their class voice.

PLEASE NOTE, this logo will be phased in as Pinders begin printing. There is NO expectation to replace current uniform. When the time comes for you personally to buy new garments the embroidered cardigans/jumpers/fleeces, PE tracksuit tops remain optional.

We hope you like the new logo and what it represents. Remember our Lion Cub (painted by all) will be on display in Meadowhall from the 8th of June 2026.

What a way to end such a great week!

Year 6 you have given your all in the build up to and during SATs. You have been such a pleasure to work with. We could not have asked for anymore!

Thank you for being exemplary students at our breakfast club, during the tests, in your approach and encouragement of each other and finally in your well deserved pizza, cake and water fight afternoon.

A huge thank you to Mrs Coates and Miss Clowes for their ultimate dedication to the class in all they do.

Thank you to our families for your trust in us to support children, we appreciate this very much.

You all deserve a well earned break this weekend.

The wait is over!

I am so happy to share the location of our lion cub on the Pride of Yorkshire Sculpture Trail this summer. Our ‘Lion Heart’ cub will be situated in Meadowhall Shopping Centre from the 8th June to 7th September for all to see!

There will be physical trail maps available for purchase in venues across the region as well as a digital app for you to collect all the sculptures you find on the trail! More information can be found on the Pride of Yorkshire website closer to the trail going live.

It has just been announced that all money raised from this project will be going towards the redevelopment of the Emergency Department at Sheffield Children’s Hospital. We can’t thank you enough for all your support with fundraising and to pupils for painting our lion cub sculpture. We hope you enjoy seeing them all proudly displayed across the region throughout the summer.

As our Year 6 pupils begin their SATs tests this week, we would like to ask our whole school community to keep them in mind and support them in every way we can.

SATs week involves very strict national test administration procedures, which means our office team and SLT staff will be especially busy each morning. We kindly ask for your patience and understanding during this important week.

You can help us by:
• Ensuring all pupils arrive at school on time
• Supporting prompt drop-offs so gates and doors can be locked punctually
• Helping us maintain a calm and organised start to each day so SATs can begin on time

To our wonderful Year 6 children — we are already incredibly proud of you. Your effort, resilience and fantastic attitude towards your SATs have been exceptional. All we ask is that you do your best and try not to worry. As we have said before, these tests do not measure the many talents, qualities and gifts that each of you has.

You are ready, and we have every faith in you to take this week in your stride. Please feel free to wear the friendship bands you were given on Friday as a reminder of the many people around you who are supporting and believing in you throughout the week.
