CAMRA are holding a virtual GBBF this year due to the COVID-19 outbreak, where you pay for a case of beer and taste along online. This is the glass that they have designed for the event and they are, rightly in my view, getting caned for it online. They wanted to mark the year’s defining event, but surely a tribute to the NHS would have been in better taste?

Having just posted about some great breweries from far flung places, I feel the need to redress the balance and help publicise any local brewers efforts to beat the lockdown.

On the eve of Cloudwaters incredible Friends, Family & Beer Festival we were visited by two very delicate North Americans. Back to basics here folks. Whether you’re buying small pack canned beer from an independent bottle shop or a high street supermarket, always, always check out the dates on the base of the can.

You need to be looking for a recent “canned on” date or a remote “best before” date (as close to 6 months left as possible). I’ve sink poured beers from some great breweries recently with 3-4 months left on the BBE date, mainly due to oxidisation or just faded, stale flavours.
