Sometimes it’s too warm to dance inside, so the parish car park makes the perfect dance floor.

A great turn out for our Levenshume class in partnership with Irish Community Care Manchester.

Next Monday we will take a break for the bank holiday (and to recover from our busy weekend of event bookings) but we will be back the week after!

Hup the ceili!

Yesterday we joined the festivities at Levenshume Pride, where both our Wigan and Manchester Ceili-cise classes came together for a diversity ceili.

Called not by our Garry, but Gypsy Darling.

Huge thanks to all who joined us and to The Horseshoe Levenshume for hosting us in their tents!

We can’t wait for next weekend where we join Wigan for their pride celebrations!

Today we headed over to Irish World Heritage Centre where our Garry joined Irish Community Care Manchester at their weekly lunch club.

We did a 30 minute ’Walking Ceili’ after the lunch club as a wee community workout session. Around 20 folks stopped for the class with 12 dancing. The craic was 90, lots of laughs, forgetting which direction is left or right and a we definitely worked up a sweat.

After today’s successful event, we have decided to carry on the class every Wednesday from 2pm, FREE OF CHARGE.

A wee Friday chuckle for ye.

Wednesday evening, part way through class and we’ve just walked through the Harvest time jig, the intro from the ceili band starts, all of a sudden the left set are ablaze in laughter……

One of our dancers has this tee-shirt.

Can you see what’s wrong 😂
This is why we don’t purchase from those budget online retailers and stick with Optimum.

Hup the Ceili!

Research shows ANY exercise is better at treating depression than medications.

But what's the best one?

Dancing.

A major new study suggests that dancing may be the single most effective exercise for reducing symptoms of depression—outperforming not just other forms of physical activity, but also some standard treatments like antidepressants and talk therapy.

Australian researchers analyzed data from 218 studies involving over 14,000 participants and found that dancing consistently led to the largest drop in depressive symptoms, beating out walking, jogging, yoga, tai chi, strength training, and even SSRI medications or cognitive behavioral therapy.

The findings held across different age groups and genders, with dance offering universal benefits in mood and mental health.

Experts believe dancing works so well because it engages both body and mind. It combines movement with music, enhances self-expression, and often involves social connection—all of which contribute to increased neurotransmitter activity, mindfulness, and emotional release. In fact, dancing is considered a form of somatic therapy, helping people shift out of rumination and into present-moment awareness. Whether it's a solo dance in your bedroom or an evening out with friends, this joyful movement may be one of the most accessible and effective mental health tools we have—and it’s been hiding in plain sight.
