This year's eight PGCE trainee teachers have reached the end of Year 1 of their two-year, part-time teacher training programme.
Alongside postgraduate study, they have balanced home life, work commitments, and teaching practice with real dedication. Throughout the year, they have taught across departments, developing their professional skills and making a meaningful contribution to our students’ learning.
We’re proud of the commitment they’ve shown and look forward to supporting them as they continue their training journey. Ashton Sixth Form College Higher and Adult Education

A huge thank you to Tony Payne, our Careers Manager, for joining trainee teachers (PGCE PCET) as a guest speaker and sharing such a valuable insight into how the college supports employability!
Tony walked us through the skills employers are really looking for, how employability is woven into what happens at whole college level and in the classroom, and how students are empowered to take ownership of their own career development.
Thank you for giving up your time and sharing your expertise, Tony! 🌟 Ashton Sixth Form College

Learning from the experts! ✅
This week, our trainee FE teachers welcomed a guest speaker from Inclusion to explore Read&Write software and how it can support learners in the classroom.
Read&Write is an assistive literacy tool designed to help students access, understand and produce written content more easily. It plays a key role in inclusive practice, supporting learners with dyslexia, literacy difficulties, neurodivergence, or English as an additional language.
During their PGCE at ASFC, trainee teachers benefit from a rich programme of guest speakers who share real‑world expertise and practical insights. These opportunities help ensure our trainees are well prepared for their future roles in further education , confident, inclusive, and ready to support all learners.
Thank you to Geraldine for an engaging and insightful session.
