With the Maester 1000 Plus opened up, it was time to continue investigating, test a few components and see whether I could get any signs of life from this old analyser.

I’m never one to turn down a project, so I opened it up to investigate and began attempting to revive it.

Things took a rather unexpected turn... 💥😂

💨 PLUME MANAGEMENT KITS—DO YOU KNOW THE REQUIREMENTS? 💨

There seems to be a lot of confusion about when a plume management kit can be used, particularly when the original flue position doesn’t comply. 🤔

A plume management kit can’t simply be used to get around an incorrectly positioned installation unless the boiler manufacturer permits it.

In this video, I refer to BS 5440-1 and Technical Bulletin 016 to explain an important distinction:

➡️ The air inlet must be positioned at least 150 mm from the window frame due to structural and temperature considerations.

➡️ The POC outlet must be positioned at least 300 mm from the opening itself, to reduce the risk of products of combustion entering the building.

The frame and the opening aren’t the same measurement point and getting that distinction wrong could result in a non-compliant installation. ❌
