Flying Start Day Nursery

Flying Start Day Nursery Flying Start Barnesmead opened in September 1994. The Moorlands site opened in 1999 in order to meet the demands of a central waiting list.

It is the aim of both nurseries to provide your child with the best quality care in a stimulating environment which will enable them to develop and reach their full potential. We feel that the nurseries will give the special children you entrust to us a caring, loving and stimulating flying start! When the children leave Flying Start we will have prepared them for the next stage in their schooling

by ensuring they have self-confidence, independence and a positive attitude to learning and all-round development.

At Moorlands, we have loved fundraising for Children In Need! We are very thankful for everyone who donated 😊

We held a range of events such as; a cake sale, tombola, guess the name of the teddy and guess how many sweets are in the jar. The children also enjoyed taking part in our sponsorsed bounce and wheel barrow race.

Moorlands raised a whopping £1423.75! Once again thank you for all your donations!

Here at Moorlands, we have been getting into the Autumnal spirit over the last couple of weeks! 🍁

Preschool have been working on their hand eye coordination and fine motor skills, using tweezers to pick up and collect conkers.
Infants had a lovely Autumn tuff tray with leaves, cereal and conkers. The children enjoyed investigating, trying to get the conkers out of their shells.
Toddlers filled up their tray with sand, leaves, pine cones and conkers. The children enjoyed digging and discovering the hidden items.
In the Baby room, they enjoyed an apple crumble themed tuff tray. They enjoyed filling up the cupcake cases with the flour and apple pieces.

Such a great way to kick off the Autumn season!

All of the children at Moorlands have enjoyed a range of fun and interactive activities over the last few weeks!

In the Baby unit, they have been focusing on transport and different vehicles. They have enjoyed their own mini car wash, a digging tuff tray and a trip to the train station.

In Toddlers, they have enjoyed some fun summer activties, such as making their own icecream and visiting their own beach.

In Infants, they celebrated Yorkshire day, enjoying tea and Yorkshire puddings. The infants also did a painting activity using a range of different textures.

In Preschool, they have been getting all the children ready for school. They have enjoyed reading different books about school and also dressing up their characters in school uniform!

Such lovely activities for all the children!😃

Today we introduced The Colour Monster Story to the children in Infants 2 at Barnesmead. They seemed to really enjoy the book and were also quick to identify that yellow was happiness and red was angry. The children were also eager to show off their angry faces!
After the story we talked about how we can feel happy after being angry. We played the hot chocolate game which promotes deep breathing in a fun and subtle way. 🪷

Ellie, from Infants at Barnesmead, has worked her magic on this tuff tray! The theme all week has been mythical creatures, today we had fun exploring dragons and tomorrow is all about unicorns.
I’m sure the children will have a lovely time playing with this. 🦄
