Ashington Shotokan Karate Club was established in 1974. A message from Sensei Jill:
"I started teaching in Ashington more than 30 years ago.

The senior instructors are Sensei Trish Bruce, 6th Dan , Sensei Evie Ackroyd 3rd Dan and Sensei Paul Carmichael 2nd Dan. I hadn’t been a black belt for many years, but had experienced good teaching and instruction at the Ashington Shotokan Karate Club main dojo, and we were keen to open another venue in the town centre. Ashington Karate clubs next grading is now confirmed for Sunday November 1st.
The grading examiner is Sensei John Bruce 6th Dan.
Preparation for all gradings and personal development is so important to everyone.
All KUGB members are welcome to attend.

The KUGB(karate union of Great Britain) Summer Course was held at Lancaster University and finished today following a week of training with the most Senior Instructors in the KUGB.
Sensei Billy Higgins 8th Dan
Sensei Jimmy Brennan 8th Dan
Sensei Frank Brennan 8th Dan
Sensei Garry Harford 8th Dan
and guest instructor Sensei Caroline McGrath 6th Dan.
Jack Hetherington attended the whole week including the extra activities and had an absolutely fantastic time. In his words
"This year's summer school has been absolutely amazing. I've taken so much away it'll go miles in improving my karate also made lots of new friends which makes for some unforgettable memories. I'm already looking forward to the 2027 summer school"

Today, the KUGB held its second Grading Examiners Course of 2026 at Lancaster University, bringing together Examiners from across the country for an important day of technical training, guidance, and standardisation.

Led by Sensei Frank Brennan (8th Dan), the KUGB's Technical Lead, the course drew on his extensive knowledge and experience to reinforce the high standards expected throughout the organisation.

A valuable and productive day, helping to maintain the technical quality and integrity that the KUGB is renowned for.
