Hi there, I have recently messaged your page but not sure whether this has been received ###
Chinese New Year (20/01/2020)

The 'Little Acorns' celebrated Chinese New Year with lots of exciting tuff trays. Lots of senses were used to touch, feel, taste and smell the different foods and resources offered.

The children have been developing their motor skills through mark making and some of them made some fantastic art work to take home :)

For lunch one day the children were given some yummy chinese food to try and this was very successful! Lots of rice, noodles, spring rolls and crackers were tasted and was a lovely treat!
Little acorns discovery week!! (13/01/2020)

The children explored lots of Heuristic play this week and were very engaged in posting objects through tubes and hiding under boxes! Our new ball pool has been a huge hit and they have had lots of fun and laughter using it :)

We have also had some tents and tunnels out to play with and the children were very excited by these! Lots of crawling, hiding and peek-a-boos, experimenting with our movements and developing physical skills! What a fun week :)
Last week the 'little acorns' (2 and under) explored lots of activities about animals. Some of our tuff trays involved a messy food farm, dinosaurs with ice eggs and some jelly fish and shells! The children had great fun using their senses to explore new textures and seeing the enjoyment on their faces was fantastic!

We hope you all enjoyed the week break and enjoyed some of the lovely weather with your families!
Before the holidays the Bunnies had been exploring ANIMALS and each day we focused on different types e.g. jungle animals, sea animals, zoo animals and mini beasts. The children thoroughly enjoyed our planned activities and chatted about the sounds the animals made. They used fine motor skills to thread snakes and enjoyed being creative with collage pictures too.
We then moved on to NURSERY RHYMES and we made incy wincy climb up the spout and made the frogs jump into the pool. We had a pretend tea party and made some cupcakes for 'pat-a-cake'. Every day the children were encouraged to join in with our nursery rhyme of the day and we hope they shared some of their lovely singing with you at home! We always love to see the children happy and enjoying themselves during their time with us :)

We have been very lucky to watch our frog spawn develop into tadpoles, froglets and now almost frogs!
The children are so excited and we will be planning a trip to return the frogs to their natural habitat in the next few weeks 🐸

The Bunnies explored lots of activities based around shapes last week and in particular we looked at a circle, square, triangle and a star! We are super proud of how well some of the children can now recognise these shapes :)
Our pizza wrap activity was a great success and the children loved eating them for their tea! We have done lots of mark making, building, messy play and generally had lots of fun together - Tanya and Sarah xx

Last week in the Squirrel's we focused on Elmer, reading and retelling the story and lots of creative and number activities were enjoyed by all. We spoke lots about Elmer being unique and ourselves, adding that everybody is different, however we should all be treated equally!

The week commencing 12th April we all had a 'tinkering' week in the squirrel's room. The children had lots of problem solving activities which they very much enjoyed. Not only did it develop their hand eye coordination and overcoming barriers, it also gave them the opportunity to develop their problem solving and teamwork skills. It was a very exciting experience using real tools. The Squirrel's also learnt about safety with tools during our tinkering sessions and were extremely good at listening and being safe around others and themselves. Well done Squirrel's!

Over the past two weeks the Bunnies have been learning lots about numbers through play. Each day we focused on a specific number as well as setting up activities based on 1-10. We are so proud of how well the children have picked this up and some can now count confidently to ten and recognise numbers. Thanks to all the parents who took part in our number homework challenge! It was lovely to see the children continuing with their learning at home :)

Over the past few weeks the Bunnies have really settled into their new room. Since our move into the new nursery, the children have done so well despite the change and have really enjoyed exploring the new environment.

We have been painting, baking, mark making and spending time in our new and exciting sensory room! The bunies love the lights and fish lamp and like to climb and build with our soft play shapes :)

We focused on world book day across one week and loved seeing the children dressed up as characters from their favourite books. We shared lots of stories together and set up fun and exciting activities for the children to explore.

The bunnies made some lovely cards for their special people for mothers day so week hope you liked them :)

Last week we had a fantastic time in The Squirrels room celebrating 'World Book Day'. We had a full week of celebrations to allow all children the opportunity to dress up and take part. The books I concentrated our activities on were all by Julia Donaldson, however we all enjoyed the children's favourite books they brought from home too. Thankyou to all of the children's parents for supporting World Book Day by sending their children in such fantastic costumes. We all had an amazing week!

We have also celebrated Valentine's Day where the children have all made a special card for their parents along with lots of other fun activities. Then to end the week Chinese New Year came. Week ending 22nd January 2021 - we have been learning about some more nursery rhymes (pat - a - cake and down in the jungle) and the little acorns have thoroughly enjoyed our activities based around these. We used our imaginations to pretend to make cakes using, bowls, whisks, playdough etc We then gave the children opportunities to help make some real cakes. They were brilliant at following instructions given and loved mixing with the wooden spoons!
The children have been painting with animals, created fantastic college pictures and crawled and stomped around pretending to be lions, tigers and elephants! We hope they have been learning you these songs at home :)

Wow!! What a fantastic and exciting run up to Christmas we have had with the little acorns. We have loved seeing all of their christmas jumpers, party dresses, pjs and other Christmas wear so thanks to all the parents/carers for their participation.
